The women's luge at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held between 12 and 13 February 2018 at the Alpensia Sliding Centre near Pyeongchang, South Korea. Summary The defending champion was Natalie Geisenberger; the field also included the 2014 silver medalist and the 2010 champion Tatjana Hüfner and the bronze medalist Erin Hamlin. Geizenberger posted the fastest times in two runs out of four, her competitors were less consistent, and she had no difficulties replicated her 2014 success, becoming the third luger ever won three gold Olympic medals (after her compatriots Georg Hackl and Felix Loch). Dajana Eitberger, who had the fastest last run, took silver, and Alex Gough became the bronze medalist. For Eitberger and Gough, these were their first Olympic medals, and Gough's medal became the first ever Canadian Olympic medal in luge. Alpensia Sliding Centre
The Olympic Sliding Centre (올림픽 슬라이딩 센터) is a bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track that is located in Daegwallyeong, Pyeongchang, South Korea. The centre is located between the Alpensia and Yongpyong Resort. The venue is one of only two operating sliding facilities in Asia, along with the Spiral in Japan. It was renamed from Alpensia Sliding Centre to Olympic Sliding Centre in June 2017. Madeleine Egle
Madeleine Egle (born 21 August 1998) is an Austrian luger. She won bronze at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics and in 2018 another bronze medal at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. Career Egle turned pro in 2015 at the age of 16. She debuted at the FIL World Luge Championships during the 2015 FIL World Luge Championships. A year later she won her first career medal in the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. She made her Olympics debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Aileen Christina Frisch (born 25 August 1992) is a South Korean-Slovenian luger. Frisch competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics and 2022 Winter Olympics for South Korea. Sports career In 2012, Frisch became the world junior female singles luge champion, competing as a German. Frisch failed to make the German luge team for the 2014 Winter Olympics. She retired from luging in 2015 at age 22. After her retirement, she was contacted by German coaches hired by South Korea to become a naturalized South Korean and join the South Korean luge team. At first, she refused, but in 2016, she consented and acceded to a second request when she started missing the competitions.
