Cesana Pariol was the venue for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The track, built for the games, is located in Cesana. The venue holds approximately 7,130 spectators, of whom 3,624 are seated. Construction details The track is constructed with about of ammonia refrigeration pipes to help form ice on the track for proper sliding. Numerous sensors located along the track ensure that the ice's thickness is kept between to keep the track properly smooth during competitions. History During construction of the track prior to the 2006 games, there was concern that the track would be completed in time for homologation. A archaeological find (a small part of a Roman ruins) during construction slowed progress until the remains were excavated (near the current Turn 11). The track was completed on end of 2004. Tatjana Hüfner (born 30 April 1983) is a German retired luger who has competed since 2003. Career She won the bronze medal in the women's singles at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Hüfner won eight gold medals at the FIL World Luge Championships, winning five in the women's singles event ( 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2017) and three in the mixed team event (2008, 2012, 2017). Oswald Haselrieder
Oswald Haselrieder OMRI (born 22 August 1971 in Völs am Schlern, South Tyrol) is an Italian former luger who competed internationally from 1988 to 2010. He achieved success at junior level, taking two bronze medals in singles and a gold in doubles at the World Junior Championships, the latter achieved in partnership with Dietmar Pierhofer. Haselrider and Pierhofer continued to compete together until 1995, when they split up and Haselrieder joined forces with Gerhard Plankensteiner. Haselrieder went on to win the bronze medal in the men's doubles event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin after competing in three previous Winter Olympic Games: in 1992 in the singles event and in doubles in 1998 and 2002.
