Lucky Star (Gene Vincent Song)
"Lucky Star" is a 1961 song by Dave Burgess, first recorded as a B-side by Ricky Nelson but better known in the A-side version by Gene Vincent. The tune was written by Dave Burgess of the Champs, an old friend of Vincent's who now ran Five Star Music and Challenge Records. It is no relation to "Lucky Star" the 1957 song by Marvin Rainwater. The lyrics commence as follows: :''Lucky star shine on me, Lucky star don't you see, I need your light shinin' bright, To win her love for me tonight..'' Ricky Nelson version The song was first recorded by Ricky Nelson who had covered several of Dave Burgess' songs from 1957 onwards, with Burgess philosophical about the more commercial success Nelson had with his own songs than himself. Nelson's track was released as the B-Side to " Hello Mary Lou", a Gene Pitney song, on London Records in 1961. It then appeared on his ''Rick is 21'' album, 1962. Vincent Eugene Craddock (February 11, 1935 – October 12, 1971), known as Gene Vincent, was an American musician who pioneered the styles of rockabilly and rock and roll. His 1956 top ten hit with his backing band the Blue Caps, " Be-Bop-a-Lula", is considered a significant early example of rockabilly. His chart career was brief, especially in his home country of the US, where he notched three top 40 hits in 1956 and '57, and never charted in the top 100 again. In the UK, he was a somewhat bigger star, racking up eight top 40 hits from 1956 to 1961. Vincent was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. The Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) is a large teaching hospital. ''Thank Your Lucky Stars'' was a British television pop music show made by ABC Weekend TV, and broadcast on ITV from 1961 to 1966. Of all the show's presenters, Brian Matthew is perhaps the best remembered. Many of the leading pop groups of the time performed on it. As well as featuring British artists, it often included American guest stars. It would appear from the surviving footage that the bands mimed their latest 45. Rumford is a small village between Maddiston and Brightons in the Falkirk council area, of Scotland. The village went through a great deal of expansion in the late 1990s and early 2000s, resulting in the population increasing exponentially since the 1991 census, when it was recorded as around 275 residents.
