Lubbock–Levelland Combined Statistical Area
The Lubbock-Plainview-Levelland Combined Statistical Area is made up of five counties (Crosby, Hale, Hockley, Lynn, and Lubbock) in the South Plains region of west Texas. As of March 2020, the Lubbock-Plainview-Levelland CSA consists of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area, the Plainview Micropolitan Statistical Area, and the Levelland Micropolitan Statistical Area. In the 2010 census, the CSA had a population of 350,013, though a July 1, 2019 estimate placed the population at 381,664. The CSA's principal city is Lubbock. Abernathy, Texas
Abernathy is a city in Hale and Lubbock counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 2,805 at the 2010 census. The Hale County portion of Abernathy is part of the Plainview micropolitan statistical area, while the Lubbock County portion is part of the Lubbock metropolitan area. New Deal, Texas
New Deal is a U.S. town in Lubbock County, Texas. The population was 794 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Llano Estacado region. History New Deal was originally known as Monroe, named for Monroe G. Abernathy, a local landowner. The town was originally developed as a train station loading site. People began to settle there and that is why the town was built alongside the railroad tracks and highway. The train identification name for the township still reads Monroe alongside the railroad tracks. Some time afterward the town wanted a post office and requested the permit for the Monroe Postal Station. Because there was already a town in Texas with the name Monroe City, the U.S. postal department changed the name of the town to New Deal after Franklin D. Ralls, Texas
Ralls is a city in Crosby County, Texas, United States. It was named after John Robinson Ralls, who with the help of W.E. McLaughlin, laid out the townsite in July 1911. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 1,944, down from 2,252 at the 2000 census. Ralls is surrounded by productive farm lands that primarily produce cotton and grains, with lesser amounts of soybean, sunflower seed, and vegetables. Petersburg, Texas
Petersburg is a city in Hale County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 1,202. History Petersburg was founded in 1891 as a post office in southeast Hale County. It was named for Zack Peters and his wife, Margaret, who was the first postmistress. In 1902, Ed M. White established a store at the site of the present community, and moved the post office southwest into Hale County. Although the townsite was platted in 1909, its population remained below 100 until the Fort Worth and Denver Railway was built through town in 1928. Wheat and grain sorghum (milo) were the main crops in the area until cotton was first planted in 1905. The town was incorporated with a population of 200 in 1927. Idalou, Texas
Idalou is a city in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. It is located northeast of Lubbock near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 400 and US 62/US 82/ SH 114. The population was 2,250 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Idalou began as a settlement around a depot on the South Plains and Santa Fe Railway in the early 1910s, and within a few years had a one-room schoolhouse and several businesses. The first post office was opened in 1917, and in 1919, a two-story brick school was built after the original school burned down.
