Loyola Ramblers Men's Basketball
The Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team represents Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. The Ramblers participate as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Ramblers joined the Missouri Valley Conference in 2013, and stayed until 2022. Prior to 2013, the team had spent 34 seasons as a charter member of the Horizon League. In 1963, Loyola won the 1963 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament (then the "NCAA University Division") men's basketball national championship under the leadership of All-American Jerry Harkness, defeating two-time defending champion 1962–63 Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team, Cincinnati 60–58 in overtime in the 1963 NCAA University Division Basketball Championship Game, title game. Kenpom
Ken Pomeroy is the creator of the college basketball website and statistical archive KenPom. His website includes his College Basketball Ratings, statistics for every NCAA men's Division I basketball team, with archives dating back to the 2002 season, as well as a blog about current college basketball. His work on tempo-based basketball statistics is compared by many to the work of Bill James in baseball. As of 2012, Pomeroy was also an instructor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Utah. Pomeroy earned his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, and received a graduate degree in atmospheric science from Wyoming. After working as a meteorologist for the U.S. government, he quit that job to focus full-time on his website. He previously worked with the Houston Rockets, teaming up with noted advanced statistics user, general manager Daryl Morey. Alumni Gym (Loyola University Chicago)
Alumni Gym was a 2,000 capacity structure on the campus of Loyola University Chicago. It served as the home of the Loyola Ramblers Men's and Women's Volleyball programs, as well as the Loyola University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. It is the former home of the Loyola Ramblers basketball team, which last played in Alumni Gym in 1996. The basketball team moved to the 5,200-seat Joseph J. Gentile Center at the beginning of the 1996–97 season. From 1924 to 1941, Loyola hosted the National Catholic Interscholastic Basketball Tournament in Alumni Gym. 1963 NCAA University Division Basketball Tournament
The 1963 NCAA University Division basketball tournament involved 25 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball in the United States. It began on March 9, 1963, and ended with the championship game on March 23 in Louisville, Kentucky. A total of 29 games were played, including a third-place game in each region and a national third-place game. Loyola University Chicago, coached by George Ireland, won the national title with a 60–58 overtime victory in the final game, over the University of Cincinnati, coached by Ed Jucker. The Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball program represents the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. The school's team competes in NCAA Division I as part of the Big 12 Conference. The Bearcats are currently coached by Wes Miller. With over 1800 all-time wins, the Bearcats are the 12th winningest basketball program of all time. The Game of Change was a college basketball game played between the 1962–63 Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team, Loyola Ramblers and the Mississippi State Bulldogs men's basketball, Mississippi State Bulldogs on March 15, 1963, during the second round of the 1963 NCAA University Division basketball tournament, at Jenison Fieldhouse in East Lansing, Michigan. The Mississippi State Bulldogs men's basketball program represents Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi, in men's NCAA Division I basketball.
