Lovers' Grief Over The Yellow River
''Lover's Grief over the Yellow River'' () is a 1999 Chinese film directed by Feng Xiaoning. It was China's official Best Foreign Language Film submission at the 72nd Academy Awards, but did not receive a nomination. Feng considers it the second of his "War and Peace" (战争与和平) trilogy. Plot The plot centers on an American pilot, played by Paul Kersey, who also starred in Feng Xiaoning's 1997 '' Red River Valley'', a film which depicted the British invasion of Tibet in 1905. During the Second Sino-Japanese War the American pilot makes a forced landing near the Great Wall in North China but is taken into the care of the Communist guerilla forces. He meets and falls in love with a young woman fighter who had been raped by the Japanese invaders. The American returns to the Yellow River after the opening of China in the 1980s. Feng Xiaoning
Feng Xiaoning () (born 1954) is a Chinese film director, screenwriter and cinematographer. He is considered a member of the "Fifth Generation" Chinese directors who graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1982. Feng however graduated from the Art Direction class. He is currently also a member of Chinese National Political Consultative Conference and Chinese Writers' Association. Feng was born in Xi'an to a family of teachers. The People's Republic of China has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1979. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. China has submitted more than twenty films for Oscar consideration, two of which were nominated for an Oscar. Both of these films were directed by acclaimed Chinese director Zhang Yimou, whose films have been submitted by China eight times. Paul Kersey (born February 10, 1970) is an American actor. He starred opposite Ning Jing in the Feng Xiaoning films ''Red River Valley'' (1997) and '' Lover's Grief over the Yellow River'' (1999). Kersey also portrayed the younger version of David Banner in ''Hulk'' (2003).
