Kate Elizabeth Robbins (born 21 August 1958) is an English actress, singer and songwriter. She came to prominence in the early 1980s when she scored a top ten single on the UK Official Charts with "More Than in Love", while she was appearing in the television soap opera ''Crossroads''. She went on to become a prolific voice actress, most notably for nine years with the satirical show ''Spitting Image''. The 1980 "A Song For Europe" contest was held on 26 March 1980 (the same day as that year's budget), at the BBC Television Theatre in Shepherd's Bush and was hosted by a dinner-suited Terry Wogan. The BBC Concert Orchestra under the direction of John Coleman as conductor accompanied all the songs, but all the music was pre-recorded. The theme music was "Te deum" the Eurovision theme. Before Eurovision A Song for Europe 1980 12 songs were chosen by the Music Publisher's Association. Black Lace are a British pop band, best known for novelty party records, including their biggest hit, "Agadoo". "Mary Ann" was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, performed in English by Black Lace. The song is about a man who is estranged from his girlfriend Mary Ann after her friend caught him with another woman, and is desperate to be reconciled with her. Background After seeing a promotional video, the band had made for agents in a bid to get more work around the country, songwriter Peter Morris approached Black Lace with a view to recording his song "Mary Ann". He wanted the group to sound like chart-topping band Smokie. As the song "required" a "croaking" vocal line, it was decided that Alan Barton would take the lead vocal. Bucks Fizz were a British pop group that achieved success in the 1980s, most notably for winning the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Making Your Mind Up". The group was formed in January 1981 specifically for the contest and comprised four vocalists: Bobby G, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston.
