Louis-Charles-Auguste Delamarre, vicomte de Lamellerie ( Rouen, 1 May 1771 — Paris, 6 August 1840Quintin, pp. 111–112) was a French Navy officer and captain. Career Born to a family of low nobility, Lamellerie entered the French Royal Navy as a midshipman on 4 April 1787, serving on the gabare ''Écluse''. He transferred on the frigate '' Capricieuse'' on 9 July 1788, and on ''Andromaque'' on 30 October, serving off Santo Domingo. There, he transferred on the 74-gun '' Fougueux'' on 1 November 1790, and later on the fluyt ''Dromadaire''. On 29 October 1793, he was promoted to ''enseigne de vaisseau non entretenu'',Similar in rank to Ensign, but without a full pay and without authority and uniform while off duty. Emmanuel Halgan (Donges, 31 December 1771 - Paris, 20 April 1852) was a French Navy officer and admiral. Biography Born to the family of a bailiff, Halgan joined the French Royal Navy aged 16. He then served as a lieutenant and first officer on merchantmen. After rejoining the Navy, he served aboard the brig ''Curieux'', captured by a British frigate in 1793. Halgan was taken prisoner. Upon his return to France, he served on the ''Terrible'' and on a number of other ships. In 1798, Halgan received command of . ''Aréthuse'' was a 46-gun frigate of the French Navy. She served during the Napoleonic Wars, taking part in a major single-ship action. Much later the vessel took part in the conquest of Algeria, and ended her days as a coal depot in Brest, France. Order Of Saint-Louis
The Royal and Military Order of Saint Louis (french: Ordre Royal et Militaire de Saint-Louis) is a dynastic order of chivalry founded 5 April 1693 by King Louis XIV, named after Saint Louis (King Louis IX of France). It was intended as a reward for exceptional officers, notable as the first decoration that could be granted to non-nobles. By the authorities of the French Republic, it is considered a predecessor of the Legion of Honour, with which it shares the red ribbon (though the Legion of Honour is awarded to military personnel and civilians alike). Although officially abolished by the government authorities of the July Revolution in 1830 following the French Revolution, its activities carried on as a dynastic order of the formerly sovereign royal family. Lamellerie's Expedition
Lamellerie's expedition was a French naval operation launched in February 1806. Four French Navy frigates and a brig, all survivors of the Battle of Trafalgar in October 1805, attempted to break past the British blockade of Cadiz on 23 February 1806, taking advantage of the withdrawal of the principal blockade squadron several months earlier at the start of the Atlantic campaign of 1806. Although the squadron was intercepted by elements of the British blockade force, Captain Louis-Charles-Auguste Delamarre de Lamellerie escaped with the four frigates by abandoning the slower brig, which was captured. During the next six months, Lamellerie's squadron cruised the Atlantic, visiting Senegal, Cayenne and the West Indies but failing to cause any significant disruption to British trade.
