Loughborough Students' Hockey Club
Loughborough Students' Hockey Club is the field hockey club of Loughborough University. Recent history The men's 1st XI compete in the Men's England Hockey League and were winners of the BUCS championships for eight of the past thirteen years. They have also won the National Indoor Championships four times since 2003, as well as gold (2004) and bronze (2005) at the European Indoor Challenge, and were quarter-finalists in the Euro Hockey League in 2008. The other men's teams compete in the Midlands League. Loughborough University
Loughborough University (abbreviated as ''Lough'' or ''Lboro'' for post-nominals) is a public research university in the market town of Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. It has been a university since 1966, but it dates back to 1909, when Loughborough Technical Institute began with a focus on skills directly applicable in the wider world. In March 2013, the university announced it had bought the former broadcast centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as a second campus. It belonged to the 1994 Group of smaller research universities until the group dissolved in November 2013. Its annual income for 2020–21 was £308.9 million, of which £35.5 million was from research grants and contracts. Glenn Kirkham
Glenn Charles W. Kirkham (born 8 October 1982) is an English field hockey player who played for the English and British national team. Hockey Kirkham made his international senior debut for the national squad in January 2002 in a match against Poland. He was named as the England captain for 2006–07. He was part of the England team that participated in the field hockey world cup in Monchengladbach, Germany where they finished 5th overall. He also competed in the 2009 European championships in Amsterdam where England were champions. He was part of the England squad in Delhi, India at the Hero Honda World Cup that lost only one group game against Spain, putting them through to the semi-finals. Kirkham represented Great Britain at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 Olympics in London, where the team finished in 4th place. He retired from international hockey in 2013. John Jackson (field Hockey)
John Jackson (born 21 February 1986) is an Ireland men's field hockey international. He was a member of the Ireland team that won the bronze medal at the 2015 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship. He also represented Ireland at the 2016 Summer Olympics. At club level, he has played for both Loughborough Students and Reading in the Euro Hockey League. He also won the EHA Cup with Reading in 2014–15. Early years, family and education Jackson's father, Peter Jackson, has been involved in hockey since the 1970s as a player, coach, manager, administrator and supporter. He played for Collegians, Parkview and Mossley. Between 2003 and 2018 he served as the Ireland men's national field hockey team manager. Paul Gleghorne
Paul Gleghorne (born 11 April 1987) is an Ireland men's field hockey international. He was a member of the Ireland team that won the bronze medal at the 2015 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship. He also represented Ireland at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup. At club level, he has won the Men's Irish Hockey League with Lisnagarvey. Gleghorne comes from a family of field hockey internationals. His older brother, Mark, has played for Ireland, England and Great Britain. Two of his aunts, Margaret Gleghorne and Jackie McWilliams, were also Ireland and Great Britain women's internationals. Alastair Wilson
Alastair Wilson (born 19 December 1983, in Sheffield) is a British field hockey player, he has competed in the European championship, as well as in the World Championship and in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Wilson graduated from Nottingham Trent University in business studies, in 2007. He plays as forward in Field Hockey, and he first played for England in January 2005 on a tour of South Africa, and has since played for England 45 times and for Great Britain over 20 times, including three appearances in the EuroHockey Nations Championship, and a part in the 2006 World Cup as substitute for Ben Marsden. Henry Weir
William Henry Weir (born 13 February 1990) is an English field hockey player who plays as a defender for Old Georgians and ex England and Great Britain national teams. He may have graduated from Loughborough College with a degree in sports coaching. He is married to Racheal Weir with one daughter, Rose. Smaller than the average man, with a pan Asian linerage, became the judo champion of Wales in 2004. Club career Weir plays club hockey in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for Old Georgians. Samuel Ian Ward (born 24 December 1990), known as Sam Ward, is an English field hockey player who plays as a forward for Old Georgians and the England and Great Britain national teams. Club career Ward plays club hockey in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for Old Georgians. He has also played club hockey for Beeston (3 spells), Holcombe, Loughborough Students and Leicester. International career He competed for Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics, and for England in the 2014 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy. Ian Martin Sloan (born 19 November 1993) is an Irish field hockey player, who plays as a midfielder for Wimbledon and the England and Great Britain national teams. He represented Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
