Lou Salvador
Luis "Lou" Salvador Sr. (July 7, 1905 – March 1, 1973) was a Filipino basketball player, stage actor, and talent manager. Salvador was born in Tacloban, Leyte, to a Spanish father and a ''mestiza'' mother.Zafra, p. 315 As a player for the Philippine national basketball team during the 1923 Far Eastern Games, he scored 116 points in a single game, being one of the few basketball players to have scored over 100 points in a single game. He later became a leading figure in Philippine show business as a talent manager and a stage show impresario. Several among his 102 children became notable personalities in the Philippine entertainment scene, beginning with his son Lou Salvador Jr., who was dubbed "The James Dean of the Philippines". Tacloban
Tacloban ( ; ), officially the City of Tacloban ( war, Syudad han Tacloban; fil, Lungsod ng Tacloban), is a first class highly urbanized city in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. Pepe Pimentel
José "Pepe" Gonzáles Pimentel, Sr. (April 30, 1929 – January 25, 2013) was a Filipino game show host, television personality, actor and singer. He rose to fame as the first champion of the original ''Tawag ng Tanghalan'' (1955). Pimentel later became known as the host of '' Kwarta o Kahon'' which ran for 38 years and was considered the precursor and inspiration of popular game segments such as ''Wowowee''’s ''Pera o Bayong''. Canuto Francia (January 28, 1904 – September 4, 1979), better known as Canuplin, was a Filipino stage performer and magician who gained fame for his impersonation of Charlie Chaplin in Filipino movies and the local bodabil circuit. Biography Canuplin was born in Tondo, Manila, but grew up in Divisoria. At age 11, he won "best in costume" while dressed as Chaplin in a local fair. As his prize, he was employed as a barker at a circus. Soon, he was featured in the circus as a magician's assistant, and he learned to perform magic tricks as well. Arturo Vergara Medina (13 July 1920 – 19 June 1986), better known by his stage name Bentot or Ben Cosca, was a Filipino comedian and vaudevillian who spent most of his career under LVN Pictures. He had many box office hits with another famed comedian Pugo who played his father in their films. He also appeared on the Manila bodabil circuit in its heyday in the fifties and early sixties. Augusto Valdes Pangan, Sr. (March 12, 1932 – July 2, 1997), professionally known as Chiquito, was a Filipino actor and comedian. Biography Chiquito was born Augusto Valdes Pangan in Manila. His entertainment career began at the age of 13, when he appeared in a major musical production at the Manila Grand Opera House. In the next several years, he was a fixture in the Manila bodabil circuit, popular for his skill in dancing the boogie-woogie. Vaudeville in the Philippines, more commonly referred to as bodabil, was a popular genre of entertainment in the Philippines from the 1910s until the mid-1960s. For decades, it competed with film, radio and television as the dominant form of Filipino mass entertainment. It peaked in popularity during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines from 1941 to 1945.
