Adam Anderson, Lord Anderson
Adam Anderson, Lord Anderson FRSE (5 March 1797 – 28 September 1853) was a Scottish judge and Senator of the College of Justice. Life Anderson was the second son of Samuel Anderson of Moredun, an Edinburgh banker, and Jane Hay. The family lived at 41 George Street, then a new building in the still-growing New Town. He qualified as an Advocate in 1818. From 1835 to 1841 he was Sheriff of Perth. He served as Solicitor General for Scotland from 1842 to 1846 and as Lord Advocate from February to May 1852. In 1850 he was living at 98 George Street in Edinburgh. Anderson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh The Royal Society of Edinburgh is Scotland's national academy of science and letters. Andrew Macbeth Anderson, Lord Anderson (6 November 1862 – 27 May 1936) was a Scottish barrister, judge and Liberal Party politician. David William Kinloch Anderson, Baron Anderson of Ipswich, (born 5 July 1961) is a British barrister and life peer, who was the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation in the United Kingdom between 2011 and 2017. Donald Anderson, Baron Anderson of Swansea (born 17 June 1939) is a Welsh Labour politician, who was one of the longest-serving Members of Parliament in recent years, his service totalling 34 years. Since 2005, he has served as a Labour peer in the House of Lords. Education Anderson was born in Swansea and educated at the local Brynmill Primary School and Swansea Grammar School before studying at Swansea University. Political career He entered the House of Commons in 1966 for Monmouth until being defeated in 1970 by the Conservative John Stradling Thomas. Ruth Lauren Smeeth, Baroness Anderson of Stoke-on-Trent (''née'' Anderson; born 29 June 1979) is a British Labour Party politician who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stoke-on-Trent North from 2015 until 2019. Since 2022 she has been a member of the House of Lords. Early life Smeeth was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her mother is from east London, and her father is a Scottish trade unionist. Her maternal family is Jewish, and arrived in London during the 1890s, having escaped Russian pogroms. However, she had no contact with her father after her parents divorced when she was aged three. Smeeth attended school and taught at a Jewish school in Bristol, where her mother was later deputy general secretary for Amicus, and in her early life travelled extensively across the UK due to her mother's work. Earl of Yarborough is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1837 for Charles Anderson-Pelham, 2nd Baron Yarborough. History The Anderson-Pelham family descends from Francis Anderson of Manby, Lincolnshire. He married Mary, daughter of Charles Pelham of Brocklesby, Lincolnshire. Their grandson Charles Anderson assumed the additional surname of Pelham and represented Beverley and Lincolnshire in the House of Commons. In 1794 he was created Baron Yarborough, of Yarborough in the County of Lincoln, in the Peerage of Great Britain. He was succeeded by his son, the second Baron. He sat as Member of Parliament for Great Grimsby and for Lincolnshire.
