Longueuil Station
Longueuil station, officially Longueuil–Université-de-Sherbrooke station, is a Montreal Metro station in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. It is operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and is the southern terminus of the Yellow Line. It is connected to a campus of Université de Sherbrooke. Overview It is a normal side platform station, with a ticket hall installed directly at platform level on the departure platform. As a result, a new fare must be purchased to switch platforms. A commercial building has been built above the station. Longueuil–Université-de-Sherbrooke is directly connected to Terminus Longueuil, and is also connected to several neighbouring buildings through skywalks. Origin of name The station was originally called Longueuil, after the city where it is located. Longueuil
Longueuil () is a city in the province of Quebec, Canada. It is the seat of the Montérégie administrative region and the central city of the urban agglomeration of Longueuil. It sits on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River directly across from Montreal. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census totalled 239,700, making it Montreal's second largest suburb, the fifth most populous city in Quebec and twentieth largest in Canada. Charles Le Moyne founded Longueuil as a ''seigneurie'' in 1657. It would become a parish in 1845, a village in 1848, a town in 1874 and a city in 1920. Yellow Line (Montreal Metro)
The Yellow Line (french: Ligne jaune), formerly also known as Line 4 (french: Ligne 4), is one of the Montreal Metro's four routes operating in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The line was popular when it opened for service because it connected Downtown Montreal with the Expo 67 exhibition and La Ronde on Île-Sainte-Hélène. The line has three stations and travels under the St. Lawrence River between the Island of Montreal and the city of Longueuil. The Jacques Cartier Bridge (french: pont Jacques-Cartier) is a steel truss cantilever bridge crossing the Saint Lawrence River from Montreal Island, Montreal, Quebec, to the south shore at Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. The bridge crosses Saint Helen's Island in the centre of the river, where offramps allow access to the Parc Jean-Drapeau and La Ronde amusement park. Autoroute 20 is a Quebec Autoroute, following the Saint Lawrence River through one of the more densely populated parts of Canada, with its central section forming the main route of the Trans-Canada Highway from the A-25 interchange to the A-85 interchange. Route 134 is a highway in the province of Quebec, running from Candiac on the South Shore of the Saint Lawrence River to Montreal, crossing the river on Jacques Cartier Bridge.
