Long Track Motorcycle Racing
left, Stadion Haunstetten, a Sandbahn track, 300x300px Long track (more commonly known as longtrack, or German Sandbahn) is a discipline of track racing, that takes place at high speeds on tracks ranging from in length. Longtrack racing is an umbrella term for events using long track machinery, similar to that used in speedway but with a longer wheelbase and a two-speed gearbox. This includes Grasstrack which uses the same machinery but shares one combined World Championship. The sport is popular in Germany, perhaps even more so than speedway. Sidecar Speedway
Sidecar Speedway is a motorcycle sport involving 4 crews of a rider and a passenger competing over 4 laps on an oval shale surface. Rules are governed by the national speedway federation and are not dissimilar to conventional speedway rules. Sidecar speedway is most popular in Australia although in Great Britain it also has a strong following. Sidecar speedway events are also held in New Zealand, South Africa and United States of America. Because of the nature of the sports hotbeds being spread so wide across the globe, organising an official World Championship has been an arduous task, though in 2006 the first successful Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme World Track Racing Sidecar Championships (Sidecar Gold Cup) were held at Isle of Wight Speedway stadium. Track racing is a form of motorcycle racing where teams or individuals race opponents around an unpaved oval track. There are differing variants, with each variant racing on a different surface type. The most common variant is Speedway which has many professional domestic and international competitions in a number of countries. Administered internationally by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the sport became popular in the 1920s and remains so today. Germany National Long Track Team
The Germany national long track team is the national longtrack motorcycle speedway team of Germany and is controlled by the Deutscher Motor Sport Bund (DMSB). History The German longtrack team are traditionally the strongest nation in the world, with many of their riders prioritising a career in longtrack instead of the popular conventional oval form of speedway. The first Individual Speedway Long Track World Championship was held in 1957 (known as the European Championship at the time) and the West German/German team won 16 of the first 40 individual titles from 1957 to 1996. Since the advent of the Grand Prix series in 1997 they have continued the success, winning another 16 titles up to the end of the 2023 season. The International Motorcycling Federation (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) or (FIM) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 123 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six continental unions. There are seven motorcycle-racing disciplines that FIM covers, encompassing 82 world championships as well as hundreds of secondary championships: enduro, Motorcycle trials, trial, Road racing, circuit racing, motocross and supermoto, Motorcycle racing#Cross-country rally, cross-country, Electric bicycle, e-bike, and track racing. Harness racing is a form of horse racing in which the horses race at a specific gait (a trot or a pace). They usually pull a two-wheeled cart called a sulky, spider, or chariot occupied by a driver. In Europe, and less frequently in Australia and New Zealand, races with jockeys riding directly on saddled trotters ( in French) are also conducted. Australian Long Track Championship
The Australian Long Track Championship is a Motorcycle speedway championship held annually in Australia to determine the Australian Long track motorcycle racing, Long Track champion. The event is organised and sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). Where as motorcycle speedway takes place on tracks ranging from 250–400 metres in length, Long track racing generally takes place on 800 to 1000 metre long speedways. Prior to 1947, the championship was known as the Australian 5 Mile Dirt Track Championship and was run from 1925 to 1927 with classes including 350cc, 500cc and Unlimited. The first championship was run on 11 April 1925 at Penrith, New South Wales, Penrith in New South Wales and was won by Billy Conoulty.
