''Long Walk to Freedom'' is a 2006 album by the South African isicathamiya group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It was released on 24 January 2006 and featured collaborations with artists including Emmylou Harris, Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Etheridge, Joe McBride, Taj Mahal, Hugh Masekela, Zap Mama and many more. The album was released in an enhanced CD version (HUCD 3019, or #CDGMP 40952 in South Africa) and on Hybrid SACD (HUSA 9019) and has been (for the most part) critically praised. Shosholoza
"Shosholoza" is an Nguni song that was sung by the mixed tribes of gold miners in South Africa. It is a mix of Zulu and Ndebele words, and can have various other South African languages thrown in depending on the singers. It was sung by all-male African workers that were performing rhythmical manual labour in the South African mines in a call and response style. The song is so popular in South African culture that it is often referred to as South Africa's second national anthem. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is a song originally written and recorded by Solomon Linda under the title "Mbube" for the South African Gallo Record Company in 1939. Linda's original was written in isiZulu, while the English version's lyrics were written by George David Weiss. The song was adapted and covered internationally by many pop and folk revival artists in the 1950s and 1960s. It was recorded as "Wimoweh" by the Weavers in November 1951, and published by Folkways Music Publishers in December 1951. Artists who recorded various versions of the song included Henri Salvador, Jimmy Dorsey, Yma Sumac, Noro Morales, Miriam Makeba, and the Kingston Trio. "Homeless" is a 1986 song by Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo lead singer Joseph Shabalala. The song was the first recorded by Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo for Simon's album ''Graceland''. The song launched the international career of the South African group and introduced Zulu isicathimiya music to new western audiences. Shabalala provided the music, from the melody of a traditional Zulu wedding tune, and new Zulu words. Simon provided the English lyrics. Super Audio CD (SACD) is an optical disc format for audio storage introduced in 1999. It was developed jointly by Sony and Philips Electronics and intended to be the successor to the Compact Disc (CD) format.
