London Buses Route 75
London Buses route 75 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Croydon and Lewisham station, it is operated by Selkent, Stagecoach London. History Route 75 commenced operating on 15 December 1912 as a daily route between the Woolwich Ferry and South Croydon operated by Thomas Tilling, Tillings Bus Company. The route was acquired by the London General Omnibus Company and extended from Croydon to Caterham Valley. In 1950, route 75 worked from Woolwich Ferry by way of Charlton, London, Charlton, Blackheath, London, Blackheath and Lee Green. AEC Regent III RT buses were used. In 1960 the route was extended, on weekdays only, to South Croydon, from West Croydon station. On 26 February 1977, Route 75 was converted to One Man Buses using DMS Buses. Daimler Fleet lines. Selkent
Selkent (an acronym of South East London & Kent) is a bus company operating in central and south London and some parts of north-west Kent. It is a subsidiary brand of Stagecoach London and operates services under contract to Transport for London. The brand is not publicly used since 2010 as all buses are branded as Stagecoach, but it exists as a legal entity. Selkent shares its headquarters with sister company East London (bus company), East London at East London (bus company)#West Ham (WH), West Ham. History Selkent began as an operating district of London Transport Executive (GLC), London Transport in the early 1980s. Lee Green
Lee, also known as Lee Green, is an area of South East London, England, straddling the border of the London Borough of Lewisham and the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Selhurst Railway Station
Selhurst railway station is in the London Borough of Croydon in south London, along the line from . It is operated by Southern, which also provides all the train services. The station is in Travelcard Zone 4. History The Balham Hill and East Croydon line was constructed by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LB&SCR) as a short-cut on the Brighton Main Line to London Victoria, avoiding Crystal Palace and Norwood Junction. It was opened on 1 December 1862. However, Selhurst station was not opened until 1 May 1865. The lines were quadrupled in 1903. In 1912, the lines were electrified via Norwood Junction to provide access for the carriage sheds and repair depot for the LB&SCR railway electrification scheme. Go-Ahead London
Go-Ahead London is the trading name used collectively for the London bus operations of the Go-Ahead Group. The name first appeared in August 2008, before which the company had traded under separate names and brands. It is currently (as of 2021) the largest bus operator in Greater London, operating a total of 115 bus routes with a fleet size of 2,210 vehicles under contract to Transport for London. History The Go-Ahead Group is a large transport group based in Newcastle. It first became involved in London bus operations in September 1994, whereupon the privatisation of London Buses, it purchased London Central for £23.8 million. The Scania N series is a line of low-floor bus chassis with straight-up, transversely mounted Euro IV or newer engine at the rear, built by Scania since 2006, replacing the Scania N94. It is available as the N UB (N230UB, N270UB, N280UB) two-axle single-decker bus, the N UA (N310UA) tri-axle articulated bus, and the N UD (N230UD, N250UD, N260UD, N270UD, N280UD) two-axle double-decker bus. The double-decker variant is mainly built for use in the United Kingdom, and was initially available both as an integral product known as the Scania OmniCity, and as a separate chassis with Alexander Dennis Enviro400 bodywork. The Optare Olympus (introduced in 2006 as the East Lancs Olympus, and sold as the Darwen Olympus between 2007 and 2008) is a double-decker bus built by Optare. It could be built as a body available on Alexander Dennis Enviro400, Volvo B9TL or Scania N230UD/N270UD chassis with the 2-axle and 3-axle variants. It is the double-decker equivalent of the Optare Esteem. Some 3-axle Olympus buses were built. History The Olympus was launched by East Lancashire Coachbuilders in November 2006. London Trams, previously Tramlink and Croydon Tramlink, is a light rail tram system serving Croydon and surrounding areas in South London, England. It began operation in 2000, the first tram system in the London region since 1952. It is managed by London Trams, a public body part of Transport for London (TfL), and has been operated by FirstGroup since 2017. Tramlink is one of two light rail networks in Greater London, the other being the Docklands Light Railway. Elmers End
Elmers End is an area of south-east London, England, within the London Borough of Bromley, Greater London and formerly part of the historic county of Kent. It is located south of Beckenham, west of Eden Park, north of Monks Orchard and east of Anerley. History The name Elmers End was probably from the Aylmer family marking the Southern 'end' of the land, local landowners in the 13th century, although the Aylmer family's clan rarely left the Great North Wood area, which took up most of Norwood and Crystal Palace. An alternative view is that the land was owned by Ralph Aylmer during the reign of Henry III (1216-1272) and was classified as a 'district'. Fairfield Halls
Fairfield Halls is an arts, entertainment and conference centre in Croydon, London, England, which opened in 1962 and contains a theatre and gallery, and a large concert hall regularly used for BBC television, radio and orchestral recordings. Fairfield Halls closed for a £30 million redevelopment in 2016, and reopened in 2019. As part of the building's re-opening Talawa Theatre Company relocated to the building, taking up a 200-seat theatre space and offices. Although the venue has been a major venue for professional music, plays, musicals, stand-up comedy and classical music, a significant proportion of Fairfield's programme has been for community events. Volvo Olympian
The Volvo Olympian was a rear-engined 2-axle and 3-axle double decker bus chassis manufactured by Volvo at its Irvine, Scotland factory. The first was built in 1992 and entered production in March 1993, replacing the Leyland Olympian. History The design was based on its predecessor, the Leyland Olympian, but the chassis was modified such that only the chassis design and layout remained, with even the grade of steel for the chassis members being changed, Volvo's standard electrical system was used, as well as standard Volvo steering/"Z cam" braking systems. The early Volvo Olympians were offered with Cummins L10 or Volvo TD102KF engine, coupled to Voith DIWA or ZF Ecomat gearbox.
