London Buses route 48 was a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. History Route 48 was introduced in September 1968. In February 2017, operation of the route transferred from Stagecoach East London to Arriva London North. In June 2018, campaigners claimed to be aware of plans to withdraw the route, despite no official announcement from Transport for London. In August, documents were leaked that discussed the closure. Stagecoach East London
East London is a bus company operating in East London. It is a subsidiary of Stagecoach London and operates services under contract to Transport for London. The brand is not publicly used since 2010 as all buses are branded as Stagecoach, but it exists as a legal entity. History On 1 April 1989, London Buses was divided into 11 separate business units, one of which was East London. In 1994, it was sold to Stagecoach and renamed Stagecoach East London. In November 2000 Stagecoach consolidated its London operations under the Stagecoach London brand. In August 2006, Stagecoach sold its London bus operations to Macquarie Bank. London Buses Route 55
London Buses route 55 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Walthamstow bus station and Oxford Circus, it is operated by Stagecoach London. History The route number 55 came from tram 55, replaced by trolleybus 555, which had run between Old Street and Hackney. In 1990, the section of the route that linked Leyton and Oxford Circus was withdrawn. It was reinstated in 1997 after a campaign by Waltham Forest residents. Stagecoach London successfully retained route 55 with a new contract starting on 27 February 2010 and a further contract starting on 28 February 2015. New Routemasters were introduced on 28 February 2015. The rear platform remains closed at all times except for when the bus is at bus stops. Walthamstow ( or ) is a large town in East London, east London, England, within the Ceremonial counties of England, ceremonial county of Greater London and the Historic counties of England, ancient county of Essex.
