London Buses Route 436
London Buses route 436 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Lewisham and Battersea Park station, it is operated by London Central. History Route 436 was introduced on 8 February 2003 when route 36 Queen's Park to Lewisham was curtailed to New Cross Gate. These changes were made in preparation for the introduction of the London congestion charge. Operated by London Central's New Cross garage, it was the third route in London (after '' Red Arrow'' routes 507 and 521) to be operated by articulated buses. In March 2004 a bus on 436 caught fire on Park Lane, this was the third fire in as many months and the whole Mercedes-Benz O530G fleet, was subsequently withdrawn, and route 436 was suspended. London Central
London Central is a bus company operating in South London. It is a subsidiary of the Go-Ahead Group and operates services under contract to Transport for London. History London Central commenced operating on 1 April 1989 when London Buses was divided into 11 separate business units. In September 1994, it was sold to the Go-Ahead Group for £23.8 million. In August 2008, Go-Ahead's London bus operations all adopted the Go-Ahead London trading name, although the individual company names are still applied beneath the logo. Red Arrow (bus)
Red Arrow is a brand name given to two current and several former London bus limited stop routes used as high frequency commuter services in central London. The current Red Arrow services are routes 507 and 521, although the name was dropped from September 2009 to May 2016. History London Transport had instigated a Bus Reshaping Plan in 1966 to examine bus service operation, and settled on replacing some double-decker buses with long single-decker buses, which would have extra capacity by implementing a 'standee bus' model as used on the continent, whereby the fixed seating in the bus would be minimised to that required off-peak, with hand holds fitted to allow maximum standee capacity at peak times. New Cross Railway Station
New Cross railway station serves New Cross in south-east London, England. It is down the line from and is in London fare zone 2. The platforms are lettered rather than numbered to avoid confusion with those at by staff who worked at both stations before privatisation of the stations in 1997. Platform D is used exclusively by London Overground services. Ticket barriers control access to all platforms. Lewisham is a National Rail and Docklands Light Railway station in Lewisham, south-east London which first opened in 1849. Vauxhall Bus Station
Vauxhall bus station is a bus station in Vauxhall, in the London Borough of Lambeth. It is operated by London Buses and owned and maintained by Transport for London, and is the second busiest bus station in the city. The station, which is adjacent to the Vauxhall railway and tube stations, is situated on Bondway between Wandsworth Road, Kennington Road and Parry Street. Layout In 2004, bus stops were moved from outlying roads (South Lambeth Road, Wandsworth Road, Vauxhall Bridge) to a central point at the Vauxhall Cross road junction to create an improved transport interchange. The Mercedes-Benz Citaro is a single-decker, rigid or articulated bus manufactured by Mercedes-Benz/EvoBus. Introduced in 1997, the Citaro is available in a range of configurations, and is in widespread use throughout Europe and parts of Asia, with more than 55,000 produced by December 2019. Park Lane is a dual carriageway road in the City of Westminster in Central London. It is part of the London Inner Ring Road and runs from Hyde Park Corner in the south to Marble Arch in the north.
