Lombardi, Ltd.
Lombardi, Ltd. (also sometimes styled ''Lombardi Limited'' in publicity materials) is a surviving 1919 American silent feature comedy film. It was adapted by June Mathis from a 1917 play of the same name by Frederick and Fanny Hatton, and directed by Jack Conway. Warner Baxter had an early uncredited minor role in the film. Plot Tito Lombardi's struggling Fifth Avenue couture house is spiraling into financial failure. Through a Broadway investor he meets and falls for a showgirl who soon proves to be a gold-digger; his attractive but unassuming female assistant Norah loves him but has never made her feelings known. With money from a third-party inheritance and some ingenuity on Norah's part, the House of Lombardi is resurrected. Lombardi and Norah find true love together. Jack Conway (filmmaker)
Hugh Ryan "Jack" Conway (July 17, 1887 – October 11, 1952) was an American film director and film producer, as well as an actor of many films in the first half of the 20th century. Biography He was born as Hugh Ryan Conway, on July 17, 1887, in Graceville, Minnesota, USA. Conway started out as an actor, joining a repertory theater group straight out of high school. He then moved into films, and in 1911, became a member of D.W. Griffith's stock company, appearing primarily in Westerns. Four years later, he made his mark as a director and gained valuable experience at Universal (1916–17 and 1921–23), before moving on to MGM in 1925. He remained there until 1948, often helming prestige assignments featuring the studio's top male star, Clark Gable: ''Boom Town'' (1940), ''Honky Tonk'' (1941), and ''The Hucksters'' (1947) – all solid box-office hits. Miss DuPont (born Patricia Hannon; April 28, 1894 – February 6, 1973) was an American film actress and fashion designer. Biography Sometimes credited as Patty DuPont, Miss DuPont was born as Patricia Hannon in Frankfort, Kentucky, though sources sometimes state her place of birth as Frankfort, Indiana. She appeared as a wealthy and naive American woman seduced by Erich von Stroheim's odious count in '' Foolish Wives'' (1922). Although Stroheim is credited with discovering her, she had already made several films beginning in 1919 with ''The Day She Paid''. She was the second wife of Sylvanus Stokes. They met while he was traveling in Los Angeles shortly after his 1926 divorce from his first wife, Margaret Fahnestock Stokes, and were married in January, 1928.
