Locusts (2019 Film)
''Locusts'' is a 2019 independent feature film written and produced by Dr. Angus Watts and directed by Heath Davis starring Ben Geurens, Jessica McNamee, Nathaniel Dean in lead roles. It was distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Bonsai Films. It also marks the acting debut of rugby league player George Burgess. It has Chris Bland as DOP, Rick Beecroft as assistant director, Tiare Tomaszewski as line producer, Jason King as associate producer, and Carlo Crescini as production designer. The film is the final onscreen role of Australian actor Damian Hill who died in September 2018. Plot The plot is set in a fictional post mining boom town where drugs, unemployment, and desperation have become rife. A tech entrepreneur, Ryan Black, returns reluctantly to his hometown for his father's funeral. He gets reunited with his ex-con brother, Tyson. Ben Geurens (born 24 December 1979) is an Australian actor. Biography Geurens graduated from NIDA in 2004. At drama school his credits include '' The Return'', ''Romeo and Juliet'', ''Much Ado About Nothing'', and ''Who's Afraid of the Working Class''. Roles Geurens is best known for playing suburban rascal Toby Mangel on the soap opera ''Neighbours'' from 1990 to 1993. He then appeared in the television series ''The Man from Snowy River'' as Michael O'Neil and the movie ''Body Melt'' as Brandon Noble. He made guest appearances in other series such as ''Blue Heelers''. Jessica McNamee (born 16 June 1988) is an Australian actress. She rose to fame in Australia playing roles in the Seven Network television programs '' Home and Away'' and ''Packed to the Rafters''. George Burgess (born 21 April 1992) is a retired English professional rugby league footballer who last played as a for the St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL. He previously played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs with whom he won the 2014 NRL Grand Final, Wigan Warriors in the Betfred Super League and for the England Knights and England at international level.
