Lockington, East Riding Of Yorkshire
Lockington is a small village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately north-west of Beverley town centre. The civil parish is formed by the villages of Lockington and Aike and the hamlet of Thorpe. According to the 2011 UK census the population of Lockington parish was 524, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 542. There were 247 separate households. However, since this census, recent housing developments have occurred. The parish church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building. The A164 road and the Yorkshire Coast railway line from Hull to Scarborough both pass through the parish. Until 13 June 1960 Lockington railway station operated on the line. The level crossing adjacent to the station was the scene of a fatal accident on 26 July 1986. In 1823 Lockington was in the civil parish of Lockington and of Kilnwick, in the Wapentake of Harthill. In Lockington, England on 26 July 1986, the 09:33 passenger train from to Kingston upon Hull on the Hull to Scarborough Line struck a passenger van on a level crossing. Eight passengers on the train and a passenger in the van died. Description On 26 July 1986 the 09:33 Bridlington to Hull train, travelling at around , struck a van at Lockington Level Crossing at around 10:00, causing the train to derail. The train was made up of a two-car Class 105 DMU unit coupled to a two-car Class 114 unit. The derailed train ran down the railway embankment and the front vehicle jackknifed and fell onto its side. The van was torn into five pieces. Eight train passengers and a passenger in the van were killed. 59 people were taken to hospital, of whom 10 required further treatment. Lockington Railway Station
Lockington railway station was a minor station serving the village of Lockington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was on the Hull to Scarborough Line and was opened on 6 October 1846 by the York and North Midland Railway. It closed on 13 June 1960. In 1986, the Lockington rail crash, a serious collision on the level crossing by the station causing eight deaths and several injuries. The station building, which was designed by George Townsend Andrews, was given Grade II listed building status in 1987. Lockington-Hemington is a civil parish in the North West Leicestershire district of Leicestershire, England. The parish includes the villages of Hemington and Lockington. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 556, rising to 838 at the 2011 census. Lockington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Lockington-Hemington, in the North West Leicestershire district, in the county of Leicestershire, England. The village is close to the Derbyshire border. Although there is not a rail station in the village, East Midlands Parkway opened nearby in 2008 at Ratcliffe-on-Soar which provides links to the Midland Main Line. Lockington Hall in the village was the home of a branch of the Curzon family. In 1904 Henry Curzon of Lockington Hall was High Sheriff of Derbyshire. In 1994 a hoard of Bronze Age items was discovered locally. The hoard consisted of the shards of two Beaker style pots, a copper based alloy dagger and two embossed gold-sheet armlets. Lockington, Ohio
Lockington (originally called Locksport) is a village in Washington Township, Shelby County, Ohio, United States, along Loramie Creek. The population was 141 at the 2010 census. History Around 1830, a flour mill was built on Loramie Creek near where the village is now, and before that there was a sawmill built on the same creek that had been abandoned. In 1837, John Brown owned both of these mills, and built a new wool mill. A small community began to grow around these and other mills built along Loramie Creek later, and when the Miami and Erie Canal was built, a series of 5 canal locks lifted the water over the creek via an aqueduct. Due to its location near the locks, the community was originally called Locksport. As a crossroads between the main canal and feeders coming from Port Jefferson and Sidney, the community continued to grow. Lockington is a town in northern Victoria, Australia in the Shire of Campaspe local government area, 198 kilometres north of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Lockington had a population of 808. History For over 26,000 years, the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Yorta Yorta people had made the area around Lockington their home. Prior to early settlement, these groups were the primary custodians of the land, maintaining it whilst also practising their culture upon it. The first trace of European settlement can be traced back to the 1840s when it was owned by squatters under lease-hold tenure. David Lockington (born October 11, 1956), is the Music Director Laureate of the Grand Rapids Symphony located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S. Lockington became the 13th music director of the Grand Rapids Symphony in January 1999 and stepped down from the post in May 2015 at the end of his 16th season with the orchestra. Prior to his tenure in Grand Rapids, Lockington served as the music director for the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra (1996–2000) and the Long Island Philharmonic (1995–2000). In May 2007, Lockington was named music director of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra in Modesto, California.
