The Lo Nuestro Award for New Artist of the Year is an honor presented annually by American network Univision. The Lo Nuestro Awards have been held since 1989 to recognize the most talented performers of Latin music. The nominees and winners were originally selected by a voting poll conducted among program directors of Spanish-language radio stations in the United States and also based on chart performance on ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' Latin music charts, with the results tabulated and certified by the accounting firm Arthur Andersen. Starting from 2004, the winners are selected by the audience through an online survey. The trophy is shaped in the form of a treble clef. The award was first presented in every field awarded on the Lo Nuestro Awards: Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican and, for one time only, Rock/Alternative; however in 2013 the former categories for new artist were merged in a single one for Best New Artist in the General Field. The Lo Nuestro Awards or Premios Lo Nuestro (Spanish for "Our Thing") is a Spanish-language awards show honoring the best of Latin music, presented by Univision, a Spanish-language television network based in the United States. The awards began in 1989. The artist with the most Premios Lo Nuestro awards is Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón. The awards ceremony features famous Latino actors, musicians and show business personalities. The show is broadcast all over the Americas. In February 2006, Univision announced that closed captioning in English would be offered for the first time in the history of the broadcast. Aneeka (born Andrea Martínez; August 18, 1985) is a Venezuelan singer born in San Cristóbal. Her name means ''believe'' in Wayuu. Career Aneeka sought opportunities to record an album in Venezuela but was unsuccessful. She found willing investors in Mexico and after working in different music clubs for seven years, she recorded an album that was never released. She released her first album ''Ni Antes, Ni Después'' (''Not Before, Nor After''), produced by Ettore Grenci, in 2013. It consists of a mix of Pop, R&B and funk music. ''Ni Antes, Ni Después'' included ten songs written by Mexican Latin Grammy Award winner Mónica Vélez, whose lyrics deal with topics such as jealousy, infidelity, revenge, sex, and solidarity.
