Llanllyfni () is a village and a community in Gwynedd, Wales. It is in the historic county of Caernarfonshire. The community consists of the villages of Drws-y-coed, Nantlle, Nasareth, Nebo, Penygroes, Talysarn and the village of Llanllyfni itself. Penygroes, Llanllyfni and Talysarn are almost conjoined. As an electoral ward the 2011 census recorded a population of 1256. It is a largely Welsh-speaking village as 85% of the villagers speak Welsh as their first language. The community covers 43 square kilometres. The river Afon Llyfni (sometimes spelt Afon Llyfnwy) runs through the village. Llanllyfni existed before the slate quarries opened but grew bigger and bigger during the slate quarrying period. In the 2001 census, there were about 650 people living in the village of Llanllyfni. Llanllyfni is seven miles away from the well-known town of Caernarfon. Nearby is the Nantlle Ridge range of mountains including Craig Cwm Silyn at 734 metres (2,408 feet). Amenities and bu ... Arfon (Assembly Constituency)
Arfon is a constituency of the Senedd. It was created for the former Assembly's 2007 election. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. Boundaries The constituency has the boundaries of the Arfon Westminster constituency, entirely within the preserved county of Gwynedd, which will come into use, also, for the 2010 United Kingdom general election. Craig Cwm Silyn is a mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales which forms the highest point on the celebrated Nantlle Ridge. The steep northern face is popular with climbers. The Caernarfon & District League was a football league covering the Caernarfon and surrounding areas in North Wales. League History The league was a renamed version Bangor & District League that had run between 1930 and 1937 and again after the Second World War, between 1945 and 1950. The change in name reflected the changing geographic locations of clubs playing in the league. Sir Bryn Terfel Jones, (; born 9 November 1965) (known professionally as Bryn Terfel) is a Welsh bass-baritone opera and concert singer. Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle is a bilingual secondary school for pupils aged between 11 and 18 years. It is situated in Pen-y-groes in Gwynedd, north Wales. Bryn Fôn
Bryn Fôn (born 27 August 1954) is a Welsh actor and singer-songwriter. He also became the first ever artist to play live on BBC Radio Cymru in 1977. Biography Bryn Fôn was born in Llanllyfni, Caernarfonshire. He attended Ysgol Gynradd Llanllyfni and Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle before going on to study physical exercise and environmental studies at college. He began his career in entertainment by taking part in the opera Dic Penderyn in 1977. He formed the musical group Crysbas after leaving college, and Sobin a'r Smaeliaid in 1988. He was voted the ''hunk of the month'' in '' She'' magazine during the 1980s. He began releasing albums with his band under his own name in 1994. He and his band later performed under the name Bryn Fôn a'r Band, releasing music under their own label . He won the song contest Cân i Gymru in 1997, with ''Un Funud Fach''. Plygain
''Plygain '' is a traditional Welsh Christmas service which takes place in a church between three and six o'clock in the morning, traditionally on Christmas morning. The word 'plygain' possibly comes from the Latin word ''pullicantio, ''meaning 'when the cock crows at dawn'; some have suggested that it could also be derived from ''plygu'', which means 'bending', as when bending forward in prayer. There are several variations on the word: pylgen, pilgen, plygan, plygen etc. The carols are very different from the usual English Christmas carol tradition in that every Plygain carol includes verses on the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ in addition to his birth. The Plygain was the only service in the church calendar to be held at night time, as the carrying of candles and the procession leading to the church was a part of the Plygain.
