Llangunllo (electoral Ward)
Llangunllo with Norton ( cy, Llangunllo gyda Norton) formerly known as Llangunllo, is the name of an electoral wards in central Powys, Wales. It covers the community of Llangunllo as well as the neighbouring communities of Llanfihangel Rhydithon and Whitton with the village of Norton. The ward elects a county councillor to Powys County Council. According to the 2011 census the population of the ward was 1,255. Following a boundary review the Llangunllo ward was renamed Llangunllo with Norton, with the addition of the village of Norton from the neighbouring Presteigne ward. The community of Llanddewi Ystradenny was removed to form part of a new Ithon Valley ward. County councillors Between 1995 and 2012 the seat was held by non-party Independent councillors, with the electorate only casting their votes in the 1995 and 2004 elections (when there were more than one candidate). Powys County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Powys) is the local authority for Powys, one of the administrative areas of Wales. The County Hall is in Llandrindod Wells. History The county of Powys was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, covering the area of the three administrative counties of Brecknockshire, Montgomeryshire, and Radnorshire, which were abolished at the same time. From 1974 until 1996 there were two principal tiers of local government, with Powys County Council as the upper tier authority and three district councils below it, each of which corresponded to one of the pre-1974 counties: Brecknock Borough Council, Montgomeryshire District Council, and Radnorshire District Council. The Welsh Conservatives ( cy, Ceidwadwyr Cymreig) is the branch of the United Kingdom Conservative Party that operates in Wales. 2017 Powys County Council Election
The fifth election to the Powys County Council since local government reorganization in Wales in 1995 was held on 4 May 2017, along with other local government elections. It was preceded by the 2012 election and will be followed by the 2022 election. Results overview Sixteen seats were uncontested and, in another seat, Yscir, no one initially stood at all for the seat (the only ward in Wales where this happened). Presteigne
Presteigne (; cy, Llanandras: the church of St. Andrew) is a town and community in Radnorshire, Powys, Wales on the south bank of the River Lugg. Formerly the county town of the historic county of Radnorshire, the town has, in common with several other towns close to the Wales-England border, assumed the motto, "''Gateway to Wales''".
