Live At The Royal Albert Hall (The New Seekers Album)
''Live at the Royal Albert Hall'' is a 1972 double-album by British pop group The New Seekers. The album was released in November, having been recorded some months earlier. No singles were released from the album, although a new (studio) single was released at the same time, "Come Softly To Me". The album failed to chart in the UK, their first album for two years not to do so. The album was released in a gatefold sleeve and included a cardboard 3D model of the group on stage. In the US, the album was released in 1973 as a single-disc compilation, reducing the number of tracks from 22 to 11. It was re-titled ''The History of the New Seekers'' and released on MGM Records. The New Seekers
The New Seekers are a British pop group, formed in London in 1969 by Keith Potger after the break-up of his group, The Seekers. The idea was that the New Seekers would appeal to the same market as the original Seekers, but their music would have pop as well as folk influences. They achieved worldwide success in the early 1970s with hits including "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me" and "Beg, Steal or Borrow". Formation The group was formed after the disbanding of the successful 1960s Australian group the Seekers. "I'm a Train" is a song written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood and performed by Hammond. It was first recorded in French, in 1967, by Les Troubadours as "La chaîne". The first English version was recorded in 1968 by a UK group called Colors of Love, which included singer Elaine Paige. Albert Hammond recording Hammond's own version, released in 1974, was the first one to chart. The song reached #15 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #31 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1974. He has also had a successful recording career in his own right. He is best known for his collaborations with Roger Greenaway. "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)" is a pop song that originated as the jingle "True Love and Apple Pie", by British hit songwriters Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway, and sung by Susan Shirley. The lyrics were rewritten by the songwriters, together with US advertising executive Bill Backer and US songwriter Billy Davis, for The Coca-Cola Company's then-advertising agency, McCann Erickson, to become "Buy the World a Coke" in the 1971 "Hilltop" television commercial for Coca-Cola and sung by the Hillside Singers. "Buy the World a Coke" was produced by Billy Davis and portrayed a positive message of hope and love, featuring a multicultural collection of teenagers on top of a hill appearing to sing the song. The popularity of the jingle led to it being re-recorded in two versions: one by the New Seekers and another by the Hillside Singers, as a full-length song, dropping references to Coca-Cola. Peter John Doyle (28 July 1949 – 13 October 2001) was an Australian pop singer who had success with a number of Top 40 hits in Australia in the 1960s, then success internationally as a member of the New Seekers in the early 1970s, before resuming a solo career in 1973.
