''Live at the Basement'' is the third live album by Australian musician Renée Geyer. The album was recorded in May 1986 and released by Mushroom Records. The album was recorded as Geyer's Australian 'farewell', as she boarded a plane to the United States within 12 hours of recording the album. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1987, the album earned Geyer a nomination for ARIA Award for Best Female Artist, losing out to Jenny Morris. Renée Rebecca Geyer (born 11 September 1953) is an Australian singer who has long been regarded as one of the finest exponents of jazz, soul and R&B idioms. She had commercial success as a solo artist in Australia, with "It's a Man's Man's World", "Heading in the Right Direction" and " Stares and Whispers" in the 1970s and " Say I Love You" in the 1980s. NOTE: Used for Australian Singles and Albums charting until ARIA created their own charts in mid-1988. Otis Redding
Otis Ray Redding Jr. (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was an American singer and songwriter. He is considered one of the greatest singers in the history of American popular music and a seminal artist in soul music and rhythm and blues. Nicknamed the " King of Soul", Redding's style of singing gained inspiration from the gospel music that preceded the genre. His singing style influenced many other soul artists of the 1960s. Redding was born in Dawson, Georgia, and at age two, moved to Macon. Stephen Frank Housden (born ) is an English-born Australian musician. He joined the rock group Little River Band (LRB) in 1981 on lead guitar and vocals and ceased performing with them in 2006. Previously, Housden had worked as a session musician for various Australian artists. During the 1970s he was a member of Stevie Wright's band and Marcia Hines' touring and session bands.
