''Live at Brixton'' is the second live album by metal band Mastodon. It was released in December 2013 as a digital only release, and on April 19, 2014 as a Record Store Day exclusive Vinyl. Reception Pitchfork gave the album a positive review with Paul Thompson saying "If Mastodon never get around to a greatest hits package, Live at Brixton will do the trick". Rolling Stone magazine listed the album #19 in the 20 best metal albums of 2013. Chris Conaton of PopMatters rated the album 7 out of 10. Wrapping up his review with "this is a well-made concert film of a band playing at their best". Mastodon is an American heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia. Formed in 2000, the band's lineup of Troy Sanders (bass/vocals), Brent Hinds (lead guitar/vocals), Bill Kelliher (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) and Brann Dailor (drums/vocals) has remained the same since 2001. Mastodon has released eight studio albums, as well as a number of other releases. The band's 2002 debut album, '' Remission'', garnered significant critical acclaim for its unique sound. ''Blood Mountain'' is the third full-length studio album and major label debut by American heavy metal band Mastodon. The recording of the album finished in April 2006 and it was released on September 12 in the UK and September 12, 2006 in North America through Reprise Records. The album in full could be streamed at the band's MySpace page a few days prior to the release. Like Mastodon's previous studio work ''Leviathan'', ''Blood Mountain'' is a concept album. According to bassist Troy Sanders, "It's about climbing up a mountain and the different things that can happen to you when you're stranded on a mountain, in the woods, and you're lost. Bill Kelliher
William Breen Kelliher (born March 23, 1971) is an American musician, best known as the rhythm guitarist of heavy metal band Mastodon, and being the only band member who doesn't share the lead vocal duty. Early life Kelliher is an Irish citizen, he holds dual citizenship with the United States and Ireland. His father is an Irish immigrant who, in his teenage years, moved to the U.S. from Killorglin, County Kerry, Ireland. Career Kelliher performs a number of different roles within Mastodon. These include backing vocals during live performances, complex guitar parts and occasional lead guitar. He is also running the samples and ambiance in between and during songs. He shares guitar duties with Brent Hinds, playing mainly complex rhythm parts, although Kelliher occasionally plays solos, such as on "Sleeping Giant", and harmonized dual leads with Hinds, such as on "Black Tongue". William Brent Hinds (born January 16, 1974) is an American musician best known as a member of the Atlanta, Georgia metal band Mastodon, in which he shares guitar duties with Bill Kelliher and vocal duties with Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor. Hinds is also lead guitarist/singer for the surfabilly band Fiend Without a Face, and is involved in other projects, including classic rock bands The Blood Vessels, West End Motel, Four Hour Fogger, The Last of the Blue Eyed Devils, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, and Legend of the Seagullmen. Biography In Mastodon's early years, Hinds would work as a full-time carpenter when not touring to promote the band. Hinds left Alabama for Atlanta, Georgia in pursuit of a music career. Troy Sanders
Troy Jayson Sanders (born September 8, 1973) is an American musician, best known as a member of heavy metal band Mastodon, in which he plays bass and sings alongside guitarist Brent Hinds and drummer Brann Dailor. He is also active in Killer Be Killed and Gone Is Gone, as well as being the current touring bassist for Thin Lizzy. Biography Sanders first played when he had picked up his older brother Kyle's bass and decided to try it out, even though the bass was strung for a lefty, and he was right-handed. A few months later, he had talked his dad into buying him a bass. He started first playing in such bands as Four Hour Fogger, Knuckle and Puaka Balava. ''Remission'' is the debut album by American heavy metal band Mastodon. It was released on May 28, 2002 through Relapse Records and was re-released on October 21, 2003. Production Most of the songs were written long before the album was recorded. "Workhorse" was premiered live in Memphis in July 2001. "Trampled Under Hoof", "Trilobite", "Where Strides the Behemoth", "Crusher Destroyer" and "Mother Puncher" were all played on a WFMU radio show on August 7, 2001, and "Trainwreck" was written while Eric Saner was still in the band. At the beginning of "Crusher Destroyer" is the roar of the ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' from the film ''Jurassic Park'' with Lex saying her brother's name, "Timmy!", as they get attacked in the jeep. ''Leviathan'' is the second album by American heavy metal band Mastodon, released in 2004 on Relapse Records. It is Mastodon's first concept album, loosely based on the 1851 novel ''Moby-Dick'' by Herman Melville. The songs "Iron Tusk", "Blood and Thunder", "I Am Ahab" and "Seabeast" were released as singles. Three magazines awarded the album ''Album of the Year'' in 2004: ''Revolver'', ''Kerrang!'' and ''Terrorizer''. In 2009 and 2015 MetalSucks named ''Leviathan'' the best metal album of the 21st century. Scott Michael Kelly (born July 16, 1967) is a retired American musician. He is one of three founding members of California experimental metal band Neurosis, in which he was the band's lead vocalist and guitarist from its formation until his firing in 2019. He wrote and published music with Neurosis, Tribes of Neurot, Blood and Time and his solo acoustic project. He was also involved in a project named Shrinebuilder involving Al Cisneros, Scott Weinrich, and Dale Crover, whose first and only album was released in October 2009. He has also guested on six studio albums by the band Mastodon. In addition to his musical projects, Scott, along with his bandmates in Neurosis, is co-owner of Neurot Recordings. Brixton Academy (originally known as the Astoria Variety Cinema, previously known as Carling Academy Brixton, currently named O2 Academy Brixton as part of a sponsorship deal with the O2 brand) is a mid-sized concert venue located in South West London, in the Lambeth district of Brixton. Opening in 1929 as a cinema, the venue was converted into a discotheque in 1972, then reborn as a concert hall in 1983.
