Liu Chengjun (general)
Liu Zhengjun (; born 1949) is a retired general ('' shang jiang'') of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) of China. He served as Vice Commander of the PLAAF and President of the PLA Academy of Military Science. Liu was born in Chengwu County, Shandong Province. His former posts included commander of an Air Force division, vice commander and later commander of PLA Air Force 8th corps and the chief of staff of the Air Force of the Nanjing Military Region. In July 2003, he was appointed vice commander of the Nanjing MR and commander of the Air Force of the Nanjing MR. In December 2004, he was promoted to the post of vice commander of the PLA Air Force. Shang Jiang
(; ja, 将, Shō; ) is the rank held by general officers in some East Asian militaries. The ranks are used in both the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China on Taiwan. The People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police use three levels at present while the Republic of China Armed Forces use four. The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF; ), also known as the Chinese Air Force (中国空军) or the People's Air Force (人民空军), is an aerial service branch of the People's Liberation Army, the regular armed forces of the People's Republic of China. The PLAAF was officially established on 11 November 1949 and it is composed of 5 branches which are aviation, anti-aircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles (SAM), radar, and Airborne Corps. The PLAAF first faced combat in the Korean War against the United States using primarily the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 fighter aircraft, aircraft provided by the Soviet Union, which also assisted with the expansion of the Chinese aerospace industry. The Academy of Military Sciences () is the highest-level research institute of the People's Liberation Army of China. It is headquartered in Beijing. Its president is General Yang Xuejun (since June 2017) and Lt. General Fang Xiang is the political commissar. Functions As stated in its official description, the AMS researches issues related to “national defence, armed forces development and military operations.” It works in consultation with the Central Military Commission and the Joint staff Department. Nanjing Military Region
The Nanjing Military Region () was one of the former seven military command regions for the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Its jurisdiction covers all military and armed police located in Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Shanghai. The 17th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party was elected by the 17th Congress on 21 October 2007, and sat until the 18th National Congress in 2012.
