Little Portugal, London
Little Portugal is the nickname for the large Portuguese community in the South Lambeth area in South London, which is between Vauxhall, Stockwell and Brixton. Its central South Lambeth Road and connecting streets are home to many Portuguese cafes, bars and food shops. 7.6% of Lambeth are Portuguese-speakers, equating to roughly 25,000 people. History Many families from Portugal first settled in the area during the 1960s and 1970s. Many worked in the catering and hospitality trade, with some women gaining a reputation as efficient and courteous domestic servants. Later, others, with their savings, started to open restaurants on the South Lambeth Road. The Portuguese people () are a Romance nation and ethnic group indigenous to Portugal who share a common culture, ancestry and language. Jorge Luiz Frello Filho (born 20 December 1991), known as Jorginho, is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Chelsea and the Italy national team. Ladbroke Grove () is an area and a road in West London in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, passing through Kensal Green and Notting Hill, running north–south between Harrow Road and Holland Park Avenue. Golborne Road is a street in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London's Kensal Town. The road runs east from Portobello Road to Kensal Road.
