Lithuania participated at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Alpine skiing Cross-country skiing Biathlon Figure skating Lithuania had qualified an entry in the ice dancing event when Deividas Stagniūnas and Katherine Copely placed 14th at the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships. However, Copely is an American and did not have Lithuanian citizenship, required to enter the Olympics for Lithuania. Her special request for citizenship was denied by President Dalia Grybauskaitė. The spot was left unfilled. Cross-country Skiing At The 2010 Winter Olympics – Women's 10 Kilometre Freestyle
The women's 10 kilometre freestyle cross-country skiing competition at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada was held on February 15 at Whistler Olympic Park in Whistler, British Columbia at 10:00 PST. Each skier starts at 30-second intervals, skiing the entire 10 kilometre course. Estonia's Kristina Šmigun-Vähi was the defending Olympic champion in this event though it was held in the classical style. Aino-Kaisa Saarinen on Finland was the defending world champion though that event was also held in the classical style. Dalia Grybauskaitė (; born 1 March 1956) is a Lithuanian politician who served as the eighth President of Lithuania from 2009 until 2019. 2009 World Figure Skating Championships
The 2009 World Figure Skating Championships was a senior international figure skating competition in the 2008–09 season. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Results from these World Championships were used to determine the majority of the spots available for each country at the 2010 Winter Olympics: 24 spots in singles, 16 in pairs, and 19 in ice dancing, with the remaining spots determined at an Olympic qualifying event in the fall of 2009. As every year, Worlds also determined the entries by country for the following year's event. The event was held in the Staples Center at L.A. Katherine Copely
Katherine Leigh Copely, M.D. (born January 9, 1988) is a former American-born Ice Dancer who competed internationally for Lithuania. With partner Deividas Stagniūnas, she is the 4 time Lithuanian National Champion with Bronze Medals at both Golden Spin of Zagreb and Nebelhorn Trophy. Together they qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada after placing in the top 20 at the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships in Los Angeles, California. She received her medical degree in 2018 from Central Michigan University College of Medicine. Copely partnered with Duke Wensel in 2002. They competed until 2004 on the Novice and Junior levels. Deividas Stagniūnas
Deividas Stagniūnas (born 28 April 1985) is a Lithuanian former ice dancer. With Isabella Tobias, he is the 2011 Skate America bronze medalist and placed in the top ten at two European Championships. They represented Lithuania at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where Stagniūnas was the flagbearer. Career Early years Stagniūnas began skating at age five. He moved to the United States at age 15 to skate with a partner. Early in his career, Stagniūnas was coached by Walter Wielunski and Natalia Dubova, who trained him in ice dancing. They trained in Darien, Illinois, where he lived with his partner, Laura Whipple. He and Whipple won the senior bronze medal at the Lake Placid ice dancing competition, representing Lithuania.
