Peer-reviewed
Peer review is the evaluation of work by one or more people with similar competencies as the producers of the work ( peers). It functions as a form of self-regulation by qualified members of a profession within the relevant field. Peer review methods are used to maintain quality standards, improve performance, and provide credibility. In academia, scholarly peer review is often used to determine an academic paper's suitability for publication. Peer review can be categorized by the type and by the field or profession in which the activity occurs, e.g., medical peer review. It can also be used as a teaching tool to help students improve writing assignments. Henry Oldenburg (1619–1677) was a German-born British philosopher who is seen as the 'father' of modern scientific peer review. ''Feminist Studies'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering women's studies that was established in 1972. It is an independent nonprofit publication housed at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. ''IJFAB: International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics'' is a biannual peer-reviewed academic journal providing a forum in bioethics for feminist thought and debate. The journal (pronounced "I-Jay-Fab") is a publication of the International Network on Feminist Approaches to Bioethics. Mary C. Rawlinson (of Stony Brook University) was its inaugural editor (2006) and served in that capacity until she stepped down in 2016. ''Gender, Technology and Development'' (''GTD'') is a double blind peer-reviewed journal that serves as a forum for exploring the linkages between gender relations, development and/or technological change. The objective of the journal is to provide a platform for original research and theorizing on the shifting meanings of gender, as it relates to advances in science and technologies and/or to social, political, economic, and cultural change.
