Corse-du-Sud (; co, link=no, Corsica suttana , or ; en, Southern Corsica) is (as of 2019) an administrative department of France, consisting of the southern part of the island of Corsica. The corresponding departmental territorial collectivity merged with that of Haute-Corse on 1 January 2018, forming the single territorial collectivity of Corsica, with territorial elections coinciding with the dissolution of the separate council. However, even though its administrative powers were ceded to the new territorial collectivity, it continues to remain an administrative department in its own right. Rizzanese Reservoir
The Rizzanese Reservoir (french: Réservoir du Rizzanese) is a reservoir in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica. It stores water for irrigation, and supplies the largest hydroelectric power plant in Corsica, with installed capacity of 55 MW. Location The reservoir is formed by a dam, the ''Barrage du Rizzanese'', across the Rizzanese river. It is also fed by the Ruisseau de Codi. It is south of the village of Sorbollano. The D20 road runs close to the west of the reservoir. The river defines the boundary between the communes of Sorbollano and Levie, so the reservoir and dam are divided between the two communes. Dam The dam is owned by ''Électricité de France'' (EDF). It is a gravity dam used for hydroelectricity generation and for irrigation. It is high and long. The foundation is thick. The Rizzanese (french: Rivière u Rizzanese) is a coastal river in the southwest of department of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. It is dammed near Sorbollano to form the Rizzanese Reservoir, which stores water for irrigation and supplies the largest hydroelectric power plant in Corsica, with installed capacity of 55 MW. It flows into the Mediterranean Sea near the town of Propriano. Ortolo
The Ortolo ( co, l'Urtolu) is a coastal river in the southwest of the department of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. It is dammed to store water for irrigation. Course The Ortolo is long. It crosses the communes of Levie, Foce and Sartène. The river rises at an altitude of . Its source is in Levie on the southwest of the Punta di a Vacca Morta. It flows in a generally southwest direction past the hamlet of Bilzese (Foce) to the border of the commune of Sartène where it is dammed to form the Ortolo Reservoir. Below the dam it continues to flow southeast to enter the sea to the southwest of Tizzano. The D265 road leads east towards the river from the village of Bilzese. Canella (river)
The Canella (french: Ruisseau de Canella) is a coastal stream in the south of the department of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. It has ecologically interesting wetlands at its mouth. Course The Canella is long. It crosses the communes of Figari and Pianottoli-Caldarello. The Canella rises between the Punta d'Ovace to the west and the Malpassu to the east. Francolu
The Francolu ( co, Francolu Rau, french: Ruisseau de Francolu) is a coastal stream in the southeast of the department of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. Course The Francolu is long. It flows through the commune of Bonifacio. The stream rises to the south of the hamlet of Sapareddi. It flows with wide loops in a generally south-southeast direction, passes under the T10 coastal road, and enters the Étang de Balistra, a lagoon. The lagoon drains into the sea through a channel at the north end of the Plage de Balistra. Where the Ruisseau de Francolo enters the lagoon through a swamp there is an extensive ''sansouire'' (salt-tolerant grasses) mixed with spiny rush and sea rush. Shorebirds frequent this area. Stabiacciu
The Stabiacciu (french: Rivière u Stabiacciu) is a coastal river in the southeast of the department of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. The estuary, which contains an abandoned salt works, is rich in fauna and flora. Course The Stabiacciu is long. It crosses the communes of Porto-Vecchio and Sotta. The river rises in the commune of Sotta to the east of the village of Chera. Oso (river)
The Oso (or Osu) is a small coastal river in the southeast of the department of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. Course The Oso is long. Cavu
The Cavu or rivière de Cavu, (also called rivière de Cavo, ruisseau de Sainte-Lucie, ruisseau de Finicione) is a short river in the Corse-du-Sud department of Corsica which discharges into the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. In 2014 the Cavu became the first place of re-emerging schistosomiasis in Europe. 120 people have become infected after bathing in it.
