This is a list of universities, colleges, polytechnics and other higher education in Indonesia. According to the former Directorate General of Higher Education (now part of the Ministry of Research, Technology, & Higher Education), in 2018 there were 2,316 higher education institutions (2,235 private), including 391 universities (345 private). Higher education in Indonesia offers, academic degrees, vocational degrees, and professional degrees. A university () is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which awards academic degrees in several academic disciplines. Hasanuddin University ( id, Universitas Hasanuddin) which is abbreviated as Unhas, is one of the largest autonomous universities in Indonesia. It is located in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. South Sumatra ( id, Sumatra Selatan) is a province of Indonesia. It is located on the southeast of the island of Sumatra, The province spans and had a population of 8,467,432 at the 2020 Census. The capital of the province is Palembang. The province borders the provinces of Jambi to the north, Bengkulu to the west and Lampung to the south. Palembang () is the capital city of the Indonesian province of South Sumatra. The city proper covers on both banks of the Musi River on the eastern lowland of southern Sumatra. Padjadjaran University id, Universitas Padjajaran, abbreviated as UNPAD) is a public university located in Sumedang Regency and Bandung, which is the provincial capital of West Java, Indonesia.
