The foundation is devoted to "overcoming the intolerance of transvestitism and transsexualism brought about by widespread ignorance." Founder Merissa Sherrill Lynn states, "The crossdressing and transsexual phenomena have been an integral part of human experience as long as there has been a human experience. Transgender Victoria
Transgender Victoria (TGV) is a voluntary organisation for transgender people, their partners, families, and non-binary individuals. It promotes equity, and health and community services for transgender people in Victoria, Australia. In December 2014, Transgender Victoria won the ''Community Organisation Award'', from the Australian Human Rights Commission. Origins and management Transgender Victoria was co-founded by Kayleen White and Sally Goldner, in the late 1990s. The current chair of TGV is Rochelle Pattison. Sylvia Rivera Law Project
The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) is a legal aid organization based in New York City at the Miss Major-Jay Toole Building for Social Justice that serves low-income or people of color who are transgender, intersex and/or gender non-conforming. The organization was formed in August 2002 by attorney and transgender civil rights activist, Dean Spade. The project was named for Sylvia Rivera, a transgender activist and veteran of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, who died the same year that SRLP was formed. Founding In February 2002, Spade was followed into the bathroom by a police officer. In an essay about trans public bathroom use and bathroom bills, Spade describes his experience: "As I was looking to see what stalls were open, he approached and asked for my ID. National Transgender Advocacy Coalition
The National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC) was a federal level political lobbying and advocacy organization which was founded in 1999 and established as a 501(c)(4) lobbying group in Virginia of 2000. The NTAC was founded by a group of experienced transgender lobbyists dedicated to protecting the civil rights of transgender and gender variant people. NTAC reports and spokespersons are widely cited in the media on transgender issues. NTAC hosted its first lobbying event in 2001, and organized lobbying events in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2009. NTAC kept detailed description and statistics of what is said to its lobbyists for future reference by activists. The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) is a nonprofit social equality organization founded in 2003 by transgender activist Mara Keisling in Washington, D.C. Maryland Coalition For Trans Equality
The Maryland Coalition for Trans Equality (MCTE) is a coalition of organizations and individuals working to advance equal rights for transgender, transsexual, and gender non-conforming people in Maryland. Their stated goal is to achieve this "through shared leadership, decision-making processes, and resources". It is the largest coalition assembled in Maryland whose activities focus on advocacy and education with regard to transgender and gender non-conforming equality issues. Ingersoll Gender Center is an American non-profit organization based in Seattle that provides peer-led support groups, advocacy and community organization for transgender and gender non-conforming people in the Puget Sound region. It is one of the oldest organizations serving said community in the United States. History Ingersoll was founded in 1977 by Marsha C. Botzer and gained non-profit status in 1984.
