Jethou
Jethou ( ) is a small island that is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. It is privately leased from the Crown, and not open to the public. Resembling the top of a wooded knoll it is immediately south of Herm and covers approximately . History There is evidence of flint manufacturing in an area exposed only at low water between the island and Crevichon which shows occupation around 10,000 BC. It is said that in AD 709 a storm washed away the strip of land that connected the island with Herm. The Vikings called the island . The island's current name retains the related Norman ''-hou'' suffix, meaning 'small island' or 'small hill'. In 1416, it became part of Henry V's estate and still remains Crown property, now leased to the States of Guernsey. On the top is a marker. Marie Collings
Marie Collings (née Allaire; 1791–1853), sometimes referred to as Mary Collings, was a wealthy Guernsey heiress who ruled as Dame of Sark (island) from 1852 to 1853, being the island's second female ruler and the first holder of the fief from the presently ruling seigneurial family. She inherited the fortune of her father, the privateer John Allaire, who had obtained the mortgage on the fief shortly before his death. The island's then-ruling seigneur, Pierre Carey le Pelley, soon had no option but to sell the fief to Collings, but she never actively governed it. Background Collings was born into a wealthy family from Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands. She was one of the two daughters of the privateer John Allaire (1762–1846), the other one being Catherine Allaire. Sir Philip William Hulme (born 1948) is the co-founder of Computacenter, one of the United Kingdom's largest computer businesses. Career Having graduated at Imperial College, London with a first class degree in engineering, Hulme secured a Harkness Fellowship and joined the MBA Programme at Harvard Business School. He then joined Boston Consulting Group becoming a Vice-President and Director in 1979. Hulme, together with his former Harvard colleague Peter Ogden founded Computacenter in 1981 and expanded it into one of the United Kingdom's largest computer businesses. When the Company floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1998 Hulme gave much of the proceeds from the sale of his shares to charity. He served as Chairman of Computacenter from 1998 to 2001. Sir Peter Ogden (born 1940) is an English businessman who is one of the founders of Computacenter, one of the United Kingdom's largest computer businesses. Education Ogden was born in Rochdale, England. He was educated at Rochdale Grammar School (now Balderstone Technology College). He was awarded a scholarship to University College, Durham in 1965, where he received a BSc in Physics (1968) and a PhD in Theoretical Physics (1971). Sir Edward Montague Compton Mackenzie, (17 January 1883 – 30 November 1972) was a Scottish writer of fiction, biography, histories and a memoir, as well as a cultural commentator, raconteur and lifelong Scottish nationalist. He was one of the co-founders in 1928 of the National Party of Scotland along with Hugh MacDiarmid, R. B. Cunninghame Graham and John MacCormick. He was knighted in 1952. Sir Henry Austin Lee, (6 April 1847 − 7 November 1918) was a British diplomat, governor and landowner. He was counselor of embassy, commercial attache for France, Belgium, and Switzerland. He was a tenant of the Channel Island of Jethou from 1890 until his death; he was succeeded as tenant of Jethou by Compton Mackenzie.
