York has a low-rise skyline like other Yorkshire cities, York's tallest building being the Minster. High-rise residential blocks are common in many towns and cities in Yorkshire, with many councils, particularly Leeds, Halifax and Kingston upon Hull enthusiastically embracing high-rise living in the 1960s and '70s. Altus House is a 37-storey, residential skyscraper in Arena Quarter, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The building consists of over 752 student units. Altus House is the tallest building in Leeds and Yorkshire taking the title from Bridgewater Place in 2021. Tallest building accolades After topping out in late 2020, Altus became the tallest building in West Yorkshire, and the tallest in the wider county of Yorkshire. Arts Tower
The Arts Tower is a building at 12 Bolsover Street in Sheffield, England belonging to the University of Sheffield and opened in 1966. A spokesperson for English Heritage described it as "the most elegant university tower block in Britain of its period". At 255 feet (78 m) tall, it is the second tallest building in the city, after the 331 feet (101 m) St Paul's Tower on Arundel Gate, which was topped out in 2009. Granary Wharf
Granary Wharf is a mixed-use development that stands next to the brick tunnels beside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and the River Aire in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Leeds City railway station sits above the brick tunnels on Dark Neville Street. The tunnel complex is known locally as the Dark Arches. History In 1864 it was proposed to build a "New Station" in Leeds. Construction began in 1866 and the station was completed in 1869. The new station was built on arches which span the River Aire, Neville Street and Swinegate. The building of the station led to the creation of the 'Dark Arches' over Neville Street. Over 18 million bricks were used during their construction, breaking records at the time. K2 is a residential tower block in Leeds, UK. The building is situated in the city centre, on Albion Street and Great George Street, opposite St John's Centre. The lower two floors contain commercial premises, including a Jongleurs Comedy Club, Bar Risa (a bar with a capacity of 1500) and formerly a Hard Rock Cafe. The building is the joint 9th tallest building in Leeds. The building has 20 stories and is tall. The commercial parts of the building are known as 'The Cube'. History The building was originally built in 1972, as Dudley House, an office block occupied by Leeds City Council, however by the early 2000s, the building had been vacated and was looking tired. Tower North Central
Arena Point (previously known as ''Tower North Central'' and ''Tower House'') is a high office tower in Leeds, England. It is situated at the top end of Leeds city centre on Merrion Way in close proximity to the Merrion Centre and is adjacent to the Opal 3 Tower. The building was constructed in 1965 and with 19 floors is currently the joint fifth tallest building in Leeds, along with Park Plaza Hotel Leeds. Tower North Central was reclad in 1980, and refurbished in 2003–2004, and now provides of office space. The building also benefits from extensive on site parking with over 100 covered spaces available. The upper 11 floors are occupied by a variety of tenants following refurbishment whilst the lower seven floors and ground floor were excluded from the scheme as they were let to Axa at the time.
