European Athletics Championships
The European Athletics Championships is a biennial (from 2010) athletics event organised by the European Athletics Association and is recognised as the elite continental outdoor athletics championships for Europe. Editions First held, for men only, in 1934 in Turin, and separately for women for the first time in Vienna in 1938, the Championships took place every four years following the end of the World War II, with the exception of the 1969 and 1971 editions, becoming a joint men's and women's competition from the third edition in 1946 in Oslo. Since 2010, they have been organised every two years, and when they coincide with the Summer Olympics, the marathon and racewalking events are not contested. From 2016, a half-marathon event has been held in those Olympic years, and both the marathon and half-marathon events held as part of the Championships also function as the principle European elite team events at those distances. Yvonne Hak (; born 30 June 1986) is a Dutch middle-distance runner, who specialises in the 800 metres. She won gold at the 2010 European Athletics Championships. Early life Yvonne Hak was born on 30 June 1986 in Alkmaar in the Netherlands. Athletics career She took part in the under-23 race at the 2006 European Cross Country Championships and was 63rd overall, helping the Dutch women's team to fourth place. She won the 800 m for the Netherlands at the 2008 European Cup in Annecy, France. She made her breakthrough into the senior ranks in 2009. At the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships she reached the semi-finals of the 800 m and then won at the 2009 European Team Championships First League meet (where she also helped the Dutch 4×400 metres relay team to the bronze medal. Anna Carmela Incerti (born 19 January 1980 in Palermo) is an Italian long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon. She has represented Italy in the marathon at European, World and Olympic-level. She won the bronze in the event at the 2010 European Championships, later upgraded to silver and then to gold. Hilda Kibet
Hilda Kibet (born 27 March 1981 in Keiyo District) is a Dutch runner of Kenyan birth. She is the sister of Sylvia Kibet and the niece of Lornah Kiplagat. She obtained Dutch nationality in October 2007. Kibet's longtime partner is Dutch marathon runner Hugo van den Broek. They split their time between Iten, Kenya and Castricum, in the Netherlands. Her great-great-aunt, who is only six years her senior, is fellow runner Lornah Kiplagat. Inga Eduardovna Abitova (russian: Инга Эдуардовна Абитова, born 6 March 1982 in Novokuybyshevsk) is a Russian Long-distance track event, long-distance Running, runner, who specializes in the 10,000 metres and the marathon. Jéssica de Barros Augusto, (born 8 November 1981) is a Portuguese runner who competes in cross country running, cross country, road running and in middle distance running, middle-distance and long-distance track events. At club level, she represents Sporting Clube de Portugal (athletics), Sporting CP. Augusto has enjoyed much success at the European Cross Country Championships. Elvan Abeylegesse, (also formerly: Hewan Abeye (አልቫን አበይለገሠ, Amharic) and Elvan Can ( Turkish); born September 11, 1982) is an Ethiopian-born naturalized Turkish middle and long-distance running athlete who competes over distances from 1500 metres up to the marathon, and also in cross country. Alemitu Bekele Degfa
Alemitu Bekele (''Alemitu Bekele Degfa;'' born 17 September 1977) is an Ethiopian-born Turkish long-distance runner, who specialized in the 5000 metres. Bekele was born in Shoa, Ethiopia. In the 5000 metres she finished seventh at the 2008 Olympic Games. In the 3000 metres she won the gold medal at the 2009 European Indoor Championships, and also competed at the 2008 World Indoor Championships, without reaching the final round. She set an indoor European record at the beginning of 2010: her time of 14:46.44 at the GE Galan - a result later voided - was enough to beat Gabriela Szabo's 11-year-old mark.
