Heba Kotb
Heba Kotb ( ar, هبة قطب; born September 19, 1967) is an Egyptian certified sex therapist and host of ''The Big Talk'', a sexual advice show airing in Egypt. The first licensed sexologist in the country, Kotb bases her methods on the teachings of the Qur'an, which she says encourages healthy sexual relationships between husband and wife. She has been called: "Egypt's Dr. Ruth." Early life and education Born and raised in Egypt, Kotb grew up wanting to be a surgeon. She has three children. She attended medical school at Cairo University, writing a thesis entitled "Medicolegal Implications of Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Sexually abused Children." While writing her thesis, she realized that she had very little idea about normal sexuality. Ruth Westheimer
Karola Ruth Westheimer ( Siegel; born June 4, 1928), better known as Dr. Ruth, is a German-American sex therapist, talk show host, author, professor, Holocaust survivor, and former Haganah sniper. Westheimer was born in Germany to a Jewish family. As the Nazis came to power, her parents sent the ten-year-old girl to a school in Switzerland for safety, remaining behind themselves because of her elderly grandmother. They were both subsequently sent to concentration camps by the Gestapo, where they were killed. After World War II ended, she immigrated to British-controlled Mandatory Palestine. Despite being only 4 feet 7 inches (1.39 m) tall and 17 years of age, she joined the Haganah, and was trained as a sniper, but never actually fought. On her 20th birthday, Westheimer was seriously wounded in action by an exploding shell during a mortar fire attack on Jerusalem during the 1947–1949 Palestine war, and almost lost both of her feet. Robert Taylor Segraves
Robert Taylor Segraves (born 1941) is an American psychiatrist who works on sexual dysfunction and its pharmacologic causes and treatments. Career Segraves attended the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University in 1963 and would later receive a M.D. from the same institution. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Chicago and earned a Ph.D. from the University of London. Segraves is professor of psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and chair of the department of psychiatry at MetroHealth medical center. He was a member of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders task forces on sexual disorders for the DSM-III-R, DSM-IV and DSM-IV-TR editions. Michael A. Perelman is an American psychologist. He is a Clinical Professor Emeritus of Psychology in Psychiatry and former Clinical Professor of Reproductive Medicine, and Urology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Perelman is the co-director of the Human Sexuality Program, Payne Whitney Clinic of the NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital. Esther Perel (born 1958) is a Belgian-American psychotherapist, known for her work on human relationships. Perel promoted the concept of "erotic intelligence" in her book ''Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence'' (2006), which has been translated into 24 languages. John William Money (8 July 1921 – 7 July 2006) was a New Zealand psychologist, sexologist and author known for his research into sexual identity and Sex determination and differentiation (human), biology of gender. He was one of the first researchers to publish theories on the influence of societal constructs of gender on individual formation of gender identity. Money introduced the terms ''gender role'' and ''sexual orientation'' and popularised the terms ''gender identity'' and ''paraphilia''. Working with endocrinologist Claude Migeon, Money established the Johns Hopkins Gender Identity Clinic, the first clinic in the United States to perform sexual reassignment surgeries on both infants and adults. Heino F. L. Meyer-Bahlburg (born 1940) is a German-born psychologist best known for his work on biology of sexual orientation, gender identity, intersexuality, and HIV. William Masters
William Howell Masters (December 27, 1915 – February 16, 2001) was an American gynecologist, best known as the senior member of the Masters and Johnson sexuality research team. Along with his partner Virginia E. Johnson, he pioneered research into the nature of human sexual response and the diagnosis and treatment of sexual dysfunctions and disorders from 1957 until the 1990s. Sandra Risa Leiblum (1943–2010) was an American author, lecturer, and researcher in sexology. Biography Leiblum was born in Brooklyn, NY, earned her B.A. from Brooklyn College and graduated with a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado Medical Center, Denver, Colorado. In 1972 she joined the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry of UMDNJ, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. During her career she studied sexual issues in many circumstances addressing among others transgender situations, infertility, and menopause.
