London Borough Of Hillingdon
The London Borough of Hillingdon () is the largest and westernmost borough in West London, England. It was formed from the districts of Hayes and Harlington, Ruislip-Northwood, Uxbridge, and Yiewsley and West Drayton in the ceremonial county of Middlesex. Today, Hillingdon is home to Heathrow Airport (which straddles the border between Hillingdon and Hounslow) and Brunel University, and is the second largest of the 32 London boroughs by area. The main towns in the borough are Hayes, Ruislip, Northwood, West Drayton and Uxbridge. Hillingdon is the second least densely populated of the London boroughs, due to a combination of large rural land in the north, RAF Northolt Aerodrome, and the large Heathrow Airport. Yiewsley
Yiewsley ( ) is a large suburban village in the London Borough of Hillingdon, England, 2 miles (3 km) south of Uxbridge, the borough's commercial and administrative centre. Yiewsley was a chapelry in the ancient parish of Hillingdon, Middlesex. The population of the ward was 12,979 at the 2011 Census. Toponymy Yiewsley is not recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The place-name is believed to be derived from the Anglo-Saxon ''Wifeleslēah'': "Wifel's woodland clearing". The earliest written record of Yiewsley is from 1235 where it is shown as ''Wiuesleg'' in Assize Rolls. Geography The western side of Yiewsley lies within the Colne Valley Regional Park. Here the River Colne forms the county boundary between the London Borough of Hillingdon and Buckinghamshire. The confluence of the Frays River and River Pinn also occurs in this area and there are several man-made lakes. Hayes End
Hayes is a town in west London, historically situated within the county of Middlesex, and now part of the London Borough of Hillingdon. The town's population, including its localities Hayes End, Harlington, London, Harlington and Yeading, was recorded as 83,564 in the 2011 census. It is situated west of Charing Cross, or east of Slough. The Grand Union Canal flows through the heart of Hayes, accompanied by the Great Western Main Line and significant industry, a town centre, residential areas and country parks. Hewens College
Hewens College (formerly Mellow Lane School) is a secondary school with academy status in Hayes, Hillingdon. It is part of the Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust The school caters for years 7–13, teaching KS3, KS4 and A Level. Inspection judgements Hewens College was inspected by Ofsted in 2012 and judged as 2 (Good). It was inspected again in 2015 and again judged Good. Haydon School
Haydon School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form in the Northwood Hills area of the London Borough of Hillingdon, Greater London, for students aged 11 to 18. On 1 April 2011, Haydon School became an Academy. History The school was formed in September 1977 from the union of St Nicholas's Grammar School for Boys and St Mary's Grammar School for Girls. It was named after the local family, as was Haydon Hall. Alice Spencer, Countess of Derby, had the hall built in 1630. Languages Haydon is a designated language college teaching students foreign languages. Students entering the school are given three languages to learn until the end of Year eight; the language can only be French, Italian and Spanish. The school offered Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and German classes to students until 2018 when they were unable to continue teaching the languages due to lack of teachers able to teach the subjects. Harefield Academy
Harefield Academy is a secondary school and sixth form in Uxbridge, London. Located on the site of the former community school, John Penrose School, which closed on 31 August 2005, it reopened as an academy in 2005 and specialises in sports. Among other connections, Watford Football Club provides coaching there (the school serves as its youth system), and it also hosts an elite gymnastics division. Global Academy
The Global Academy is a University Technical College located on The Old Vinyl Factory site in Hayes, London. The UTC opened in September 2016 and is sponsored by the media and entertainment group Global and by University of the Arts London. In its first year, 100 students started in Year 10 and 100 in Year 12. In its second year, 150 students started in Year 10 and 75 in Year 12. The Academy will eventually have 800 students. On 20 April 2017, the Academy was officially opened by the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry in their capacity as patrons of "Heads Together", a mental health charity. It serves around 1,300 pupils from a range of social backgrounds. History The school opened in 1962 with 450 pupils, eventually rising to 862 by 1982. Douay Martyrs is split into two campuses separated by Long Lane. The Arrowsmith campus contains the original building, and is situated in Edinburgh Drive near Ickenham tube station. The Cardinal Hume campus, though older, did not become part of Douay until 1974, formerly being Swakeleys School for Girls, though this was not its first identity.
