The governor of Gibraltar is the representative of the British monarch in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The governor is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the British government. The role of the governor is to act as the ''de facto'' head of state. Bayside Comprehensive School, or simply Bayside, is a comprehensive school in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. It is one of three secondary schools in Gibraltar and covers year 7 to year 13 (age 11 to 18). History Bayside was established in 1972 when the comprehensive school system was implemented in Gibraltar. Four separate schools were merged to form Bayside, the sole secondary school for boys aged 12 to 18. The original four schools were St. Jago's Secondary Modern, Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary Modern the Gibraltar and Dockyard Technical School and the Gibraltar Grammar School. Westside School or simply Westside is a comprehensive school in the British territory of Gibraltar. The school opened in 1982, and was built in order to provide education to the students of the former Girls' Comprehensive School, previously spread over three different sites, and itself an amalgamation of four girls' schools: Loreto High School, St. Joseph's Secondary School, St. Margaret's School, and St. David's Commercial School. It was formerly only for girls, but as of 2021 is coeducational. Subjects offered Westside offers a range of subjects at different levels. These are at Key Stage 3 (years 7, 8 and 9), Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11) and Sixth form (years 12 and 13). Students do their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) courses during Key Stage 4 and those who wish to further their studies from there, do their A-Levels during sixth form. Christian Brothers School, Gibraltar
The Christian Brothers School was a school in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. The school was a technical school in the 1930s and in 1950 became the ''Gibraltar Grammar School'' until comprehensive education was introduced in the 1970s. The building was then home to the Sacred Heart Middle School but was no longer run by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. In July 2015, the Sacred Heart Middle School became the Saint Bernard's Middle School and moved to a different location. The building was renovated and now houses Prior Park School, Gibraltar's first co-educational, Catholic independent secondary school. Prior Park School is the fourth school in the Prior Park family, the other three being located in Bath and Wiltshire, UK. Gibraltar Public School
The Gibraltar Public School, also known as Committee of the Public School was a government-owned school located on Flat Bastion Road in Gibraltar. The school was established in 1832 and closed in 1897. History Gibraltar became a Crown colony in 1830 and although the official language was English the children were mostly taught in Spanish. In 1832 the then Governor of Gibraltar George Don arranged for a new school to open in Flat Bastion Road. This school opened the same year as Methodist Dr. William Harris Rule established another new school in Gibraltar. The diversity in the supply and quality of education arose from the political debates over the use of English and the choice of religion and denomination. 181 boys and 99 girls attended in 1833. In 1835 there were six private schools in Gibraltar. The school closed in 1897.
