This is a list of school districts in British Columbia. British Columbia in Canada is divided into 60 school districts which administer publicly funded education until the end of grade 12 in local areas or, in the case of francophone education, across the province. Changes Many school districts were in existence prior to British Columbia joining Canada in 1871. Some districts were just single schools or even one teacher. Traditionally school districts in British Columbia were either municipal, which were named after the municipality such as Vancouver or Victoria, or rural and given a regional name. Many districts' names are a legacy of this pattern. Burton, British Columbia
Burton is a settlement on the east shore of Lower Arrow Lake in the West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Before European contact, Burton was known as Xaieken, a large village of Sinixt first nations people. Inadequate archeological research of the area exists to support several First Nations claims. Burton arose in the 1890s when gold was found at Cariboo Creek, a steamboat stop. The community was named for Reuben Burton who preempted in 1893 and was the postmaster. Arriving miners and farmers spurred development. Served by CPR sternwheeler boats for many years until 1954, BC Highway 6 is now the main means of access. Tug boats still ply the lake towing log booms and barges. The original townsite was submerged when the Keenleyside Dam flooded the area in 1968. Kelowna ( ) is a city on Okanagan Lake in the Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of British Columbia, Canada. It serves as the head office of the Regional District of Central Okanagan. The name Kelowna derives from the Okanagan word ''kiʔláwnaʔ'', referring to a male grizzly bear. School District 23 Central Okanagan is a school district in the Okanagan valley of British Columbia. It includes the cities of Kelowna, and West Kelowna, and the District Municipalities of Lake Country, and Peachland, and is the 5th largest district in BC. Lumby, British Columbia
Lumby is a small community of 1,731 people, located near the edge of the Monashee Mountains. It is mainly a logging, manufacturing and agriculture community. The village is home to a network of trails along the creek beds, known collectively as the Salmon Trail. Hang gliding and paragliding are very popular in Lumby. The village has hosted many national and international events, usually taking place at nearby Cooper Mountain. Schools administered by School District 22 Vernon in Lumby include Charles Bloom Secondary School, Crossroads Alternate School and J W Inglis Elementary School. The community was also home to the Lumby Fighting Saints of the now defunct WHA Junior West Hockey League. Vernon is a city in the Okanagan region of the Southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It is northeast of Vancouver. Named after Forbes George Vernon, a former MLA of British Columbia who helped establish the Coldstream Ranch in nearby Coldstream, the City of Vernon was incorporated on December 30, 1892. Rossland is in the West Kootenay region of south central British Columbia. High in the Monashee Mountains, the city lies immediately east of the intersections of BC highways British Columbia Highway 3B, 3B and British Columbia Highway 22, 22. Castlegar, British Columbia
Castlegar is the second-largest community in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. In the Selkirk Mountains, at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers, it is a regional trade and transportation centre, with a local economy based on forestry, mining and tourism. Revelstoke () is a city in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, with a census population of 8,275 in 2021. Revelstoke is located east of Vancouver, and west of Calgary, Alberta.
