The following is a list of some railway accidents, incidents and disasters in Bangladesh. 1985 * 13/01/1985: Parbatipur-bound Simanta Express caught fire. Passengers tried to stop the train by pulling the communication cord, but the driver did not stop the train, apparently because robbers operate in the area. 27 people died and at least 58 were injured due to the accident. 1987 * 17/05/1987: In the then British India, on the metre-gauge Akhaura–Laksam–Chittagong line of the Assam Bengal Railway, an express train derailed between Kamalasagar/ Kasba and Nayanpur and cars rolled down to an embankment. 36 people died and 58 injured. 1989 * 15/01/1989: A north-bound mail train collided head-on with a Chittagong-bound express train at Gazipur District, due to the railway staff not knowing how to operate the new signal system. Sirajganj District ( bn, সিরাজগঞ্জ জেলা) is a district in the North Bengal region of Bangladesh, located in the Rajshahi Division. It is an economically important district of Bangladesh. Sirajganj district is the 25th largest district by area and 9th largest district by population in Bangladesh. It is known as the gateway to North Bengal. Its administrative headquarter is Sirajganj. Kulaura Upazila
Kulaura ( bn, কুলাউড়া) is the biggest upazila (subdistrict) of the Moulvibazar District in north-eastern Bangladesh. The total area of this upazila is 545 km2. Hakaluki Haor, the largest marsh wetland in Sylhet and one of the largest in Bangladesh is partially located there. Habiganj District
Habiganj ( bn, হবিগঞ্জ, Hobigonj), formerly known as Habibganj ( bn, হবিবগঞ্জ, Hobibgonj), is a district in north-eastern Bangladesh, located in the Sylhet Division. It was established as a district in 1984 as a successor to its ''subdivision'' status since 1867. It is named after its headquarters, the town of Habiganj. History Ancient Prehistoric settlements were said to have been discovered in the Chaklapunji tea garden, near Chandirmazar of Chunarughat. Parabat Express (Train no. 709/710) is an intercity train which runs between Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) and Sylhet. Parabat Express has been considered one of the prestigious and luxurious trains since the inception of intercity train in Bangladesh in 1986. The train connects two important cities of Bangladesh. Faujdarhat
Faujdarhat is a neighborhood of Chittagong City in Bangladesh. It is well known as a ship breaking area, with one of the largest breaking yards in the world: Chittagong Ship Breaking Yard. There are several institutions including Faujdarhat Cadet College, the first cadet college in Bangladesh. History In 1995, the Forest Department created a mangrove forest park that stretches from Faujdarhat to South Kattali in Chittagong. Bangladesh Railway Class 2000
Bangladesh Railway Class 2000 is the earliest meter-gauge diesel electric locomotive class of Bangladesh Railway. These locomotives have been in service since 1953 which make them the oldest running locomotives in the history of Bangladesh Railway. A total of 40 locomotives of this class were imported. Most of these locomotives are no longer in service as only 7 of them are in running condition. Builders details The Class 2000 locomotives were built by General Motors Diesel at its London, Ontario plant, Canada. These 40 locomotives came to the Eastern Bengal Railway in 3 phases.
