The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the United States. The FCC maintains jurisdiction over the areas of broadband access, fair competition, radio frequency use, media responsibility, public safety, and homeland security. The FCC was formed by the Communications Act of 1934 to replace the radio regulation functions of the Federal Radio Commission. The FCC took over wire communication regulation from the Interstate Commerce Commission. The FCC's mandated jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories of the United States. KAOK
KAOK (1400 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a News Talk Information format. Licensed to Lake Charles, Louisiana, United States, the station serves the Lake Charles area. The station is currently owned by Cumulus Media and features programming from Westwood One and Premiere Networks. Its studios are located on Broad Street in downtown Lake Charles and its transmitter is at the intersection of Fruge Street (US 90) and I-210. KAOK began as a member of the "OK Group" which included WAOK, WBOK, KYOK, and others and was known as serving the African-American community. Thomas Austin Gresham (1921–2015), a 1946 graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge who was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, opened KLOU in Lake Charles and was manager and part owner of KAOK as well. KASO
KASO (1240 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a classic hits format. Licensed to Minden, Louisiana, United States, the station serves the Shreveport–Bossier City metropolitan area. The station is located in Minden at 410 Lakeshore Drive on the eastern end of Turner's Pond near the E.S. Richardson Elementary School. It was launched in the early 1950s under the call letters KAPK. For decades, it was owned by Harold Ray "Boe" Cook (1925–1997), a native of Lampasas, Texas, and Manoah Shadrach "Digger" O'Dell Jr. (1926–2016), an Amarillo native. The two assumed management of KASO in 1961 and 1962, respectively, having come to Minden from Clovis, New Mexico. O'Dell also served four terms on the Webster Parish Police Jury, the parish governing body akin to the county commission in other states. Alexandria is the ninth-largest city in the state of Louisiana and is the parish seat of Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. It lies on the south bank of the Red River in almost the exact geographic center of the state. Ruston, Louisiana
Ruston is a small city and the parish seat of Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is the largest city in the Eastern Ark-La-Tex region. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 21,859, reflecting an increase of 6.4 percent from the count of 20,546 counted in the 2000 Census. Ruston is near the eastern border of the Ark-La-Tex region and is the home of Louisiana Tech University. Its economy is therefore based on its college population. Marksville is a small city in and the parish seat of Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,702 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, an increase of 165 over the 2000 tabulation of 5,537. Louisiana's first land-based casino, Paragon Casino Resort, opened in Marksville in June 1994.
