Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. Radio Metrowave ( bn, রেডিও মেট্রোওয়েভ) was the first private radio station in Bangladesh. The station carried a news and entertainment format that it characterised as "infotainment". It broadcast on frequency 256.41 meter band or 1170 kHz in medium wave, from 7:30a.m. to 10:30a.m. and noon to 3:00p.m. The station served the Dhaka metropolitan area and adjoining districts. Radio Foorti is a Bangladeshi FM radio station. The station went live on 22 September 2006, and is currently available in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet. Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Mymensingh, Cox's Bazar, Bogura, Noakhali and Kushtia. It has popularized the role of radio jockey in Bangladesh. Info Radio Foorti hit the airwaves on 21 September 2006, in Dhaka at a frequency of 98.4 MHz. It later changed the frequency to 88.0 MHz by September, 2007. Bangladesh Betar ( bn, বাংলাদেশ বেতার; ), or BB is the state-owned radio broadcaster of Bangladesh, initially established as the Dhaka station of All India Radio in 1939. It was later made part of Radio Pakistan. After the independence of the country in 1971, Radio Pakistan ceased transmissions there and the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was renamed to Bangladesh Betar, which took full control of all radio stations in the country at the time.
