Roseires Dam
The Roseires Dam ( ar, خزان الروصيرص) is a dam on the Blue Nile at Ad Damazin, just upstream of the town of Er Roseires, in Sudan. It consists of a concrete buttress dam 1 km wide with a maximum height of 68 m, and an earth dam An embankment dam is a large artificial dam. It is typically created by the placement and compaction of a complex semi-plastic mound of various compositions of soil or rock. It has a semi-pervious waterproof natural covering for its surface and ... on either side. The earth dam on the eastern bank is 4 km long, and that on the western bank is 8.5 km long. The reservoir has a surface area of about 290 km2. The dam was completed in 1966, initially for irrigation purposes. Sennar Power Station
Sennar ( ar, سنار ') is a city on the Blue Nile in Sudan and possibly the capital of the state of Sennar. It remains publicly unclear whether Sennar or Singa is the capital of Sennar State. For several centuries it was the capital of the Funj Kingdom of Sennar. Overview Sennar had an estimated population of 100,000 inhabitants in the early 19th century. The Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP), is a collaborative effort by eleven countries in Eastern Africa to interconnect their electricity grids and take advantage of excess capacity within the network and facilitate trade of electric power between the members. Location The secretariat of the Eastern Africa Power Pool organisation is located at Wereda 02, House 059, Bole Sub City, in Addis Ababa, the capital and largest city of Ethiopia. History In February 2005, seven countries in the Eastern African region came together because they saw mutual benefit in having one power pool. El Jaili
El Jaili is a power station located at Garri (80 km N of Khartoum), Sudan. The first unit was commissioned in 2003 and the last in 2007. It is operated by the National Electricity Corporation of Sudan (NEC). Garri4 is one of the thermal power plants connected to the national grid, with a total installed capacity of 110 MW (6.9 percent) of the country's total thermal electricity production. Kosti, Sudan
Kosti (also Kusti, ar, كوستي) is one of the major cities (population was 173,599) in Sudan that lies south of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, and stands on the western bank of the White Nile river opposite Rabak(the capital of the White Nile state)where there is a bridge. The city is served by Kosti Railway Station and Rabak Airport. History Kosti was founded shortly after 1899 by the Greek merchant Konstantinos “Kostas” Mourikis, who arrived in Sudan along with his brother following the Anglo-Egyptian victory over the indigenous Mahdist state. He set up a store on the White Nile, where pilgrims from West Africa to Mecca and Southern trade routes crossed. Jabal Awliya
Jabal Awliya (, Jabal al Awliyā', Jebel Aulia, Gebel Aulia) is a village in the north-central part of Sudan, about south of Khartoum. Nearby is the Jebel Aulia Dam, built in 1937 by the British for the Egyptian government. Jabal Awliya became a refuge camp during the Second Sudanese Civil War, housing more than 100,000 inhabitants. Ad-Damazin
Ad-Damazin ( ar, الدمازين, Ad-Damāzīn) is the capital city of Blue Nile, Sudan. It is the location of the Roseires Dam and power generation plant. Ad-Damazin is served by a terminal station of a branch line of the national railway network. However, the train service to Ad-Damazin has been discontinued many years ago. Instead the town can be reached from Khartoum via a decent tarmac road and by plane. However, Damazin Airport is mainly served by UNMIS or government flights. Ad-Damazin is a city filled with many dialects, but the majority of the population speaks Sudanese Arabic, which is an accent of the original Arabic language. The Jebal Aulia Dam is a dam on the White Nile near Khartoum, Sudan. Its construction began 1933 and was completed in 1937. When completed it was the largest dam in the World.
