Llangyfelach
Llangyfelach is a village and community located in the City and County of Swansea, Wales. Llangyfelach is situated about 4 miles north of the centre of Swansea, just west of Morriston. It falls within the Llangyfelach ward. To the west is open moorland. The population was 2,510 as of the 2011 UK census. The name is seemingly derived from a combination of 'llan' and 'Cyfelach' (the name of a saint), with a mutation to combine them for Llangyfelach. Description Llangyfelach was once the name of a parish that covered much of the former Lordship of Gower. Today's community covers a smaller area including the site of the former Felindre tinplate works, which hosted the National Eisteddfod in 2006. Bordering the village to the north is the M4 motorway Junction 46. The village has its own primary school, crematorium, post office, The 'Plough and Harrow' pub, and a Scout hall. The Gower Peninsula ( cy, Gŵyr) in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It contains over twenty villages and communities. Villages Bishopston Bishopston (, or historically ''Llanmerwallt'' or ''Llancyngur Trosgardi'') is an inland village, 6 miles (9.5 km) west-southwest of Swansea and near the beaches of Caswell Bay, Brandy Cove and Pwll Du. One of the larger villages in Gower, it has its own rugby club, South Gower Rugby Football Club, and its own primary and comprehensive schools. (Bishopston is part of Swansea's Bishopston ward.) Bishopston church, at the head of Bishopston Valley, is dedicated to Saint Teilo, who gives the village its Welsh name. The church contains a plain, massive font of Romanesque type, and its tower holds two 18th-century bells. In the churchyard are the remains of an old stone cross. Craig-cefn-parc is a village near Clydach, outside Swansea, Wales. It falls within the Mawr ward of Swansea Swansea (; cy, Abertawe ) is a coastal city and the second-largest city of Wales. Cockett
Cockett ( cy, Y Cocyd) is a district and community (Wales), community in Swansea, Wales falling within Cockett (electoral ward), Cockett ward. It is located about north-west of Swansea city centre. It includes the eastern half of Gowerton. Cockett, in common with much of western Swansea, was the result of late Victorian and early twentieth century expansion. More housing estates were developed during the 20th century and further housing was constructed near the Townhill, Swansea, Townhill district in the early 2000s. The area now has a broad mix of housing stock. 83 per cent of the property in the Cockett neighbourhood is owner occupied. Clydach, Swansea
Clydach is both a village and a community in Swansea, Wales, within the Clydach ward and the Llangyfelach parish. It is located northeast of Swansea city centre. In 2011, the population was 7,503. Welsh is the first language of 24 per cent of the population and both Welsh and English language schools are available. The village lies close to the M4 motorway which can be accessed via the bypass or old road via Ynystawe. The community includes part of the village of Glais. History In the 1800s, Clydach was a very small community if it could even be called that. Maps from then show Clydach to consist of sub-areas namely 'Mount Pleasant' (the area by high street shops), 'Faerdre' (covering the area nearest to Vardre Road), 'Down' the area that was once 'Down Farm' which is now land laying behind the Farmer's Arms, Clydach and below 'Ty gwyn Road'. Clase is a suburban district of the City and County of Swansea, Wales within the Mynydd-Bach (electoral ward), Mynydd-Bach ward. Clase approximates to the housing area south of Clasemont Road between Morriston and Llangyfelach. History Clasemont was the home and therefore territorial designation of Sir John Morris, 1st Baronet who founded Morriston, Swansea on the basis of copper-smelting, brass manufacture, tin-plating and coal mining - coal is a major local mineral and copper was imported from other parts of Wales and from Cornwall. Before then, Morriston was a rural and woodland part of Llangyfelach.
