Cadole
Cadole is a village in Flintshire, Wales. It lies west of Gwernymynydd and Mold (Yr Wyddgrug), south of Gwernaffield and to the east of the Clwydian Range, part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The name appears as Cat-hole, Cat Hole and Cathole on eighteenth century maps, and the village was still known by this name in living memory. The ''Place-Names of Flintshire'' states that the name was deliberately changed to its modern spelling following the gentrification of the area, so that the name could be derived from the Welsh place name elements 'Cae' (field) and 'Dôl' (meadow). One reason often given for this deliberate change was that English incomers found the name Cat-hole (or its English homographs) to be unseemly. Ffynnongroyw
Ffynnongroyw (sometimes spelled Ffynnongroew) is a village in Flintshire, north Wales. It is situated on the A548 road, near the Dee Estuary coast, near Prestatyn. Etymology The name Ffynnongroyw is from the Welsh word "Ffynnon" meaning well and "groyw" meaning clear or pure. The original well is still in existence and is situated on Well Lane in the village. Parishes / electoral wards The population of this area is now shown under the community of Llanasa and only the electoral ward remains. The total population of this ward taken at the 2011 census was 1,808. The electoral ward includes Talacre and Picton. Taking away the population of Talacre, the population of the Ffynnongroyw is roughly 1461. Industry Nearby is the site of the old Point of Ayr Colliery which opened and developed in the late nineteenth century. Ffrith is a small village in the community of Llanfynydd in Flintshire, north-east Wales. Name The name Ffrith (the Welsh double "f" is pronounced simply as "f") reflects a spelling and pronunciation particular to Flintshire: it is derived from a North Welsh word meaning variously a "pasture", "enclosure" or "forest" and borrowed originally from the Middle English word "frith", meaning a forest or game preserve.Owen, H. Flint, Flintshire
Flint ( cy, Y Fflint) is a town and community in Flintshire, Wales, lying on the estuary of the River Dee. It is the former county town of Flintshire. According to the 2001 Census, the population of the community of Flint was 12,804, increasing to 12,953 at the 2011 census. The urban area including Holywell and Bagillt had a population of 26,442. Geography Flint is located in north-east Wales, adjoining the estuary of the River Dee, to the north of the town of Mold. Across the estuary, the Wirral can be seen from Flint and views to the south of the town include Halkyn Mountain. As the crow flies, Flint is located less than 12 miles from the English urban area of Liverpool, and even closer to its metro area. Ewloe
Ewloe (; cy, Ewlo, ) is a village and electoral ward in the community of Hawarden in Flintshire, Wales. It is situated close to the Flintshire/Cheshire sector of the Wales-England border. The A55 expressway passes through Ewloe and its most notable landmark is Ewloe Castle. The Ewloe electoral ward had a population at the 2011 Census of 5,420. The urban area of the village is contiguous with Hawarden, Buckley and Shotton. The Office for National Statistics deems Ewloe to form part of the Buckley built-up area, which covers much of Deeside. Economy Ewloe grew rapidly during the late 1990s and early 2000s and is now the home of the internet based Moneysupermarket.com and construction company Redrow. Buckley ( cy, Bwcle ) is a town and community in Flintshire, north-east Wales, from the county town of Mold and contiguous with the villages of Ewloe, Alltami and Mynydd Isa. It is on the A549 road, with the larger A55 road passing nearby. Buckley is the second-largest town in Flintshire in terms of population. At the 2011 Census, its community had a population of 15,665. Connah's Quay
Connah's Quay ( cy, Cei Connah), known locally as "The Quay" and formerly known as Wepre, is a town and community in Flintshire, lying within the Deeside conurbation along the River Dee, near the border with England. It is the largest town in Flintshire. It is located west of Chester and can be reached by road from the A548, by rail from the nearby Shotton railway station, and also is on the National Cycle Network Route 5. It also lies just south of Deeside Industrial Park, one of the largest such complexes in the region. The major part of Tata steelworks is also on the town's border on the north bank of the River Dee. Wepre Woods, an ancient woodland in the town, is controlled by Flintshire County Council's Ranger Service and includes Ewloe Castle which dates from the 13th century. Cilcain is a village and community, near Mold in Flintshire, north-east Wales. The village has an industrial history and includes the Millennium Woods, a post office, a public house, a parish church, a primary school (Ysgol y Foel) and a village hall. Cilcain borders the parishes of Rhosesmor, Rhes-y-cae and Rhydymwyn. The community includes the village of Rhydymwyn.
