George Campbell Macaulay
George Campbell Macaulay (6 August 1852 – 6 July 1915), also known as G. C. Macaulay, was a noted English classical scholar. His daughter was the fiction writer Rose Macaulay. Family Macaulay was born on 6 August 1852, in Hodnet, Shropshire, England, the eldest son of Rev. Samuel Herrick Macaulay, who was a Rector in Hodnet. Their family descended, in the male-line, from the Macaulay family of Lewis. In 1878, George Campbell Macaulay married Grace Mary Conybeare, the daughter of Rev. W. J. Conybeare. Together the couple had two sons and four daughters. Their second child, Rose Macaulay (born 1881), an English author, was appointed as a DBE in 1958.. Michael John Macaulay (19 April 1939 – 10 December 2021) was a South African cricketer who played in one Test match in 1965. A left-arm pace bowler who sometimes also bowled spin, Macaulay was educated at Hilton College where he played for the 1st XI. He made his first-class debut for Transvaal against Border in 1957–58, becoming a regular player in 1959–60. In 1963–64, playing for Orange Free State in the B Section of the Currie Cup, he took 37 wickets at 13.35, including career-best figures of 7 for 49 (11 for 97 in the match) against Rhodesia at Bloemfontein. Leopold Macaulay
Leopold Macaulay (November 25, 1887 – December 24, 1979) was a Canadian politician and lawyer, born in Peterborough, Ontario. Macaulay was a Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. He was first elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Toronto area riding of York South in 1926. He was brought into the cabinet as Provincial Secretary and Registrar in September 1930 in the last few weeks of the administration of Ontario Premier George Howard Ferguson. He was retained in that position when Ferguson's successor, George Henry formed his cabinet in December. Macaulay went on to serve as Minister of Highways from 1931 to 1934 and also Minister of Public Works for six months before the defeat of the Henry government by Mitchell Hepburn's Ontario Liberal Party in the 1934 Ontario election. Kenneth Macaulay (1792-1829) was a merchant and colonial official in British Sierra Leone during the early nineteenth century. Macaulay served as Acting-Governor of Sierra Leone and was appointed as a member of His Majesty's Colonial Council. He was a second cousin of Zachary Macaulay, the abolitionist and member of the Clapham Sect. Kenneth Macaulay (politician)
Kenneth Macaulay (1812 – 29 July 1867) was an English Conservative Party politician. He sat in the House of Commons between 1852 and 1865. Macaulay was born on 30 September 1812 in Rothley, Leicestershire, England, the son of Rev. Aulay Macaulay, the vicar of Rothley. He was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, graduating B.A. in 1835. He was a Cambridge Apostle; in 1843, he married Harriet Woollcombe, daughter of W. Woollcombe. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Cambridge at the 1852 general election, but the a petition was lodged and the election was declared void on 1 March 1853. A Royal Commission was established, and the writ of election was suspended until 1854. Macaulay contested the Cambridge again at the 1857 general election, and regained his seat, holding it until he stood down at the 1865 general election. Colonel The Hon. John Simcoe Macaulay (13 October 1791 – 20 December 1855) was a businessman and political figure in Upper Canada. In 1845, before retiring to England, he donated the land on which the Church of the Holy Trinity (Toronto) was built. Early life He was born in England in 1791, the son of James Macaulay and Elizabeth Tuck Hayter. His parents came to Upper Canada in 1792, enjoying the patronage of Lieutenant-Governor Sir John Graves Simcoe, who was also his godfather and for whom he was named. Macaulay grew up in York and attended John Strachan's school in Cornwall. In 1805, he went to England to study at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich. John Macaulay (October 17, 1792 – August 10, 1857) was a businessman, newspaper owner and political figure in Upper Canada. He was born in 1792 in Kingston, the son of Robert Macaulay. He was educated in Cornwall at John Strachan's school. In 1812, he established himself as a merchant in Kingston. In 1818, with Alexander Pringle, he purchased the ''Kingston Gazette'', renaming it the ''Kingston Chronicle''. Although the paper prided itself on its independence, it has close ties to the members of the Family Compact. In 1822, Macaulay helped engineer the removal of Barnabas Bidwell from the Legislative Assembly. His paper voiced his views on the importance of developing the Upper Canada economy, including improving internal navigation to help promote commerce.
