An epithet (, ), also byname, is a descriptive term (word or phrase) known for accompanying or occurring in place of a name and having entered common usage. Gautrekr
{{Unreferenced, date=December 2009 Gautrekr was a legendary Geatish king who appears in several sources, such as ''Gautreks saga'', ''Hrólfs saga Gautrekssonar'', '' Bósa saga ok Herrauðs'', ''Ynglinga saga'', ''Nafnaþulur'' (part of the ''Prose Edda'') and ''Af Upplendinga konungum''. He appears in different temporal settings, and he could represent different kings named Gautrekr, as the name simply means "Geatish ruler". In the various settings, he also has different offspring. However, all settings present him as the son of a Gaut or Gauti, and in one of the later settings, his father Gaut gave his name to Götaland (Geatland). In ''Nafnaþulur'', he is mentioned as one of the sea-kings, after his father Gauti. Halfdan The Mild
Halfdan the Mild (Old Norse: ''Hálfdan hinn mildi ok hinn matarilli'', (meaning the generous and stingy on food)) was the son of king Eystein Halfdansson, of the House of Yngling and he succeeded his father as king, according to Heimskringla. He was king of Romerike and Vestfold. He was said to be generous in gold but would starve his men of food. He was a great warrior who often pillaged and gathered great amounts of loot. His wife was Liv, the daughter of king Dag of Vestmar. Halfdan the Mild died of illness in his bed. He was succeeded by his son, Gudrød the Hunter. According to the historian Halvdan Koht, Halfdan may have been the one to win independence for Vestfold during the turbulent years of 813–14. The Frankish annals state that the kings of Hedeby had to solve an uprising in Vestfold at this time. Henry The Mild, Duke Of Brunswick-Lüneburg
Henry of Brunswick-Lüneburg (Latin ''Henricus'', died 14 October 1416), Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, called Henry the Mild, was prince of Lüneburg from 1388 to 1409 jointly with his brother Bernard I, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, from 1400 to 1409 also of Wolfenbüttel, and from 1409 until his death sole prince of Lüneburg. Henry was the fourth son of Magnus with the Necklace, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg. He participated in the prosecution of the murderers of his brother Frederick, elected King of the Romans, after 1400. Henry ravaged the Eichsfeld, a possession of the archbishop of Mainz, who was suspected to be involved in the murder. Only in 1405, a peace was ratified between Brunswick-Lüneburg and the Archbishopric. John III, Count Of Holstein-Plön
John III of Holstein-Plön (c. 1297–1359), called ''John the Mild'', was a Count of Schauenburg and Holstein-Plön and Holstein-Kiel, ruling Holstein-Plön (1312–1316 and again 1350–1359) and Holstein-Kiel (1316–1359). Otto The Mild, Duke Of Brunswick-Lüneburg
Otto the Mild (24 June 1292 – 30 August 1344), Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, ruled over the Brunswick part of the duchy. Otto was the eldest son of Albert II, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg. Otto and his brothers succeeded on their father's death in 1318; he served as his brothers' guardian while they were not of age. In 1323, he acquired the Altmark from Brandenburg as an inheritance of his wife's; but he sold it in 1343, when he failed to establish control there.
