Trenčín
Trenčín (, also known by other alternative names) is a city in western Slovakia of the central Váh River valley near the Czech border, around from Bratislava. It has a population of more than 55,000, which makes it the eighth largest municipality of the country and is the seat of the Trenčín Region and the Trenčín District. It has a medieval castle, Trenčín Castle, on a rock above the city. Trenčín is chosen as the European Capital of Culture in 2026. Names and etymology Trenčín was first mentioned under the Greek name ''Leukaristos'' (Λευκάριστος), depicted on the Ptolemy world map around 150 CE. During the course of the Marcomannic Wars between the Roman Empire and Germanic Quadi, the Romans carved an inscription on the rock under the present-day castle in 179 CE and the place was mentioned as ''Laugaricio''. Marián Hossa
Marián Hossa (; born 12 January 1979) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey right winger. Hossa was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the first round, 12th overall, of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. After spending his first seven NHL seasons with the Senators, he played for the Atlanta Thrashers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago Blackhawks. Over the course of his career, he made five NHL All-Star Game appearances and played in three consecutive Stanley Cup Finals with three different teams, finally winning the Stanley Cup in 2009–10 with Chicago. He won two additional Stanley Cup championships with Chicago during the 2012–13 and 2014–15 seasons. Hossa's playing career ended prematurely in 2017, when he announced he was suffering from a progressive skin disorder. Branko Radivojevič ( sr, Бранко Радивојевић / ; born 24 November 1980) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey forward who began and finished his career playing for HK Dukla Trenčín of the Slovak Extraliga (Slovak). He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota Wild. His father Matija, a Bosnian Serb, came to Czechoslovakia during the 1970s as a contractor of a Yugoslavian company. Playing career Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 1999, Radivojevič signed a 3-year deal with the Phoenix Coyotes on June 19, 2001 and played parts of the next three seasons there. Peter Ölvecký
Peter Ölvecký (born 11 October 1985) is a Slovak professional ice hockey forward. He played 32 games in the National Hockey League with the Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators from 2008 to 2010. The rest of his career, which lasted from 2003 to 2019, was mainly spent in the Slovak Extraliga. Internationally Ölvecký played for the Slovakian national team at several tournaments, including the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. Andrej Nedorost (born April 30, 1980) is a Slovak former professional ice hockey player. He played 28 games in the National Hockey League with the Columbus Blue Jackets between 2001 and 2003. Radoslav Kunzo (2 September 1974 – April 2023) was a Slovak footballer who played as a defender. He started playing for MFK Košice, but spent most of his career at Inter Bratislava, which he captained for several years.
