Bolton School
Bolton School is an independent day school in Bolton, Greater Manchester. It comprises a co-educational nursery, co-educational infant school (ages 3–7), single sex junior schools (ages 7–11) and single sex senior schools including sixth forms (ages 11–18). With over 2,400 pupils, it is one of the largest independent day schools in the country. History Early history Established as Bolton Grammar School, it is not known exactly when the boys' school was founded although it is recorded in 1516. In 1525, William Shaw of Wigan sold land worth 33s 4d p.a. towards the maintenance of a schoolmaster to teach grammar in Bolton. In 1644, it was endowed by Robert Lever and so began the start of a long relationship with the Lever name. Christopher Edward Goudge (4 March 1935 Prestwich, Greater Manchester, England– 7 November 2010 Devon, United Kingdom) was a British athlete who competed in the 400m hurdles at the 1960 Summer Olympic Games in Rome. Early life Goudge was born in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, England where his father was an inspector for Lloyds Bank. The family settled in Bolton where he attended Bolton School. While doing national service with the Royal Tank Regiment he also represented them as a runner. He studied physics at UMIST, also playing clarinet and representing the University in athletics. Chris Eatough (born 30 October 1974, England) is a British mountain bike racer (now retired) who was part of the Trek Racing Cooperative team. He is a six-time 24-hour solo World Cup champion and five-time 24-hour solo National Cup champion.
